race car paint scheme opinion
My speed yellow 993 is getting this exact body work. Question is do I paint the flares a contrasting color (as is common) or leave the car all yellow with red mirrors? I am leaning to the all yellow concept. What do you think? Strictly a race car. Thanks!

Bill, I would go all yellow. easier to just repaint when issues happen (hopefully not again for you but you never know) and if you have some advertising it is easier to contrast it (IMHO).
Please put up some pics when it is finished, I'd love to see how it turns out!

The facory 993 GT2's and RSR's that I am familiar with are solid colors. Skips car is unique with the blue body work. My thought is that the more radical the car the more stock I want it to look. With all the red combo's and mixed color flares I may want the full yellow.
"easier to just repaint when issues happen (hopefully not again for you but you never know)" Kary please... don't even think that way

Bill,
As Greg suggested, have you thought of hiring a motorsports graphics company to do something very bold and original? Two names come to mind: Victory By Design Graphics and Tim Fraker Signs.
I met one of the guys from Victory By Design at VIR last year and their worked looked great. I just referred them to a buddy of mine who runs an ad agency. My pal has a client who just bought an IRL car and needs to do graphics for it so he can campaign the car. Hopefully, they can do business. No affiliation to Victory whatsoever other than having met one of the principals and the aformentioned referral.
Tim Fraker just did Woody Smith's 964 race car in a wild orange tiger stripe pattern for his black paint job. It is a very visually intense car, and one that you can see coming a mile away. No affiliation either. Woody seemed quite happy with it.

My opinion: either go all the way, or not at all. Just the doors, or just the bumpers, and it tends to look, at first glance, like you've recently replaced some parts and haven't had the time to paint them yet. I think 911's look great with a center stripe, and/or painted bumpers, flares and rockers. Symetrical designs look great on a 911.
On the other side of the coin, one color is understated and all-business.
I'd go all-yellow if that were my car.

They are both great looking graphics. All yellow with some graphics will work.
I wish PCA would allow us to reserve a # for the season like SCCA does. This adding digits is a pain.

Flat Top,
Funny you should ask, this paint scheme was inspired by are factory car that was built for a race in East Afirca, it was the 1978 SC that raced in East African Safari, I saw a picture of it a long itme ago, and fell in love with it. So when it was time to paint mycar, I dug out the picture and did my best to copy it, I changed the colors to the green I had on hand and it turned out pretty nice. It did however take forever to mask off and paint, and up close it is not a really great paint job, but hey, it is a race car first.
Here is a picture of the original. I will be re vamping my website inthe next few weeks and will have a lot of pictures posted there
