Deer
At the race last year they announced that there was now fence around the entire track. I don't recall any critter sightings either.

At my first DE with RTR circa 2003-ish... in two days there was a deer, a snake and a raccoon hit. ... they called it the usual "SP Smorgasbord....."
BTW anyone remember in practice for the daytona iMSA race about 6 years ago. one of the factory 911s hit a groundhog on the back stretch full on..... that thing went completely thru the front cooler and trashed the fuel cell... unbelievable.

Now you suggest avoiding VA........
So will you be staying in WV, or will I be seeing you at breakfast at the GW????

It also matters where you are coming from. I live in "Covid safe" Connecticut so I want to stay within one of the "safe" states so I don't have to quarantine.
GW hotel and the shopping district in Winchester is nice and would have stayed there again but for Covid.

OK - answers to a few questions...
1) Yes the deer fence is complete and that has greatly reduced the deer sightings. There is an active hunting program on the property. (for deer and for groudhogs - it seems like humans are not the only ones that put on pandemic pounds!) BUT no race track is 100% wildlife-free.
2) If you plan on coming for one of the events leading up to the race and want to stash your trailer, PM me - they are allowing it but I am providing a list and instructions.
3) Hotels. There is a "race hotel" where we put the national staff BUT there are a number of brand spanking new other hotels that are giving great rates. Shop around and reserve. Check Winchester (VA), Inwood (WV) and Charles Town (WV)
4) Sound limits. Yes, there is a sound limit in the contract (103 dB) but I wouldn't waste too much energy worrying about it.

5) Although it is likely that many a West Virginian has yelled "Squeal like a pig", filming was actually in GA and SC. So not that far if you drive like Winston Wolf.

There are some great roads around there but I'll be driving a 3/4 ton Suburban not an NSX so should I or shouldn't I bring a guitar along?
