Let's start at NJMP - I propose all the E cars (or as many as possible) paddock together. And let's chat Friday night. I'll buy the beers.

Summit appears promising with 6 rows of E cars registered... and 3 E cars are listed in Vintage - could they move to E? 15 E cars would be a very stout field.

Interesting thread. A lot of what has been discussed here applies to SP996 and how it was allowed to be killed off. The problem with PCA is class proliferation and a lack of effective scruitineering. Once people lose faith that everyone is playing within the spirit of the rules, the class is dead.

I think a big part of spec 996 or anything 996 is the fear of the dreaded IMS bearing that has unwarrantedly scared off a lot of people. I raced my koni 996 for 5 years with no issues and would happily buy another. Had it not been for the DFI Caymans in GTB rendering it a bit uncompetitive I'd probably still have it. They did drop the weight for the 996's since I sold and Andrew Gianone and his dad have proved it to be competitive again. It was also pretty sweet when Porsche was selling crate motors for 9k.

I agree, the fears are overblown. The same risks apply to SPB and that doesn't seem to have stopped anyone either.
I know I'm courting disaster by saying this out loud, but the crate motor I put in my car in 2014 has been nothing but dead reliable. The only thing I've had to do to it is tighten up a few bolts on the oil pump housing. I just whipped it for 3 days in 103 degree heat at the Texas Motor Speedway roval and it never skipped a beat, not to mention it took home 3 wins. I credit a lot of that to the fact that it's had an accusump on it since day 1 and has been pre-oiled nearly every time it has been started. A Chrysler powertrain engineer told me one time what percentage of the wear and damage that occurs to an engine on cold start and I forget the specific figure, but I believe him.
Back on topic, I think a good idea would be to consolidate SP996, SP997, and SPC in a single class equalized by power/weight similar to the NASA formula. OK, sorry for the sidetrack, back to the discussion on E...

Good point about consolidation. D, E, F air cooled cars all in one class. Heck throw G in there too. All those aircooled cars run on R7s.... 944s can race in SP classes and boxsters with spbox. Just need a place for those boxsters who don't fit in. I do not advocate robbing from 1 class to pay another.
