Very cool article but wish it went into a little more detail about what he does. Interesting that he trains using shifter karts. I know a lot of drivers come up through the ranks using karts but didn't realize drivers use them for training.

They all do. A lot of drivers, specifically Massa has a charity race for pro drivers every year that is much more “gentlemanly” but Michael Schumacher raced in Las Vegas competively When with Mercedes in the last couple years of his pro career against kart racers from all over the world in the Super Nationals.

One of the lasting memories I have is my 8 year old on the kart track with future Indy champion Ryan Hunter Ray in So Cal. Just a typical practice day in the off season and seeing both on track at the same time was special!

I had a shifter kart for years. Fantastic training tool. Also great offroad.

Just about any race kart will wear you out, especially when driven on the outdoor tracks. The indoor karting facilities although fun, can't compare when it comes to physical demand especially when driven in the heat.

Nice to see PL getting some mainstream press, but that article is very light on any actual training info. More of the usual "racing is physical, it's hot, g-forces, endurance.."

Yeah, typical article for the mainstream common man. All fluff and no substance.

Pretty ridiculous that at 5’8 and 155 pounds he is considered one of the "big guys", especially in GT cars..
