Default Tom Brennans's INstant Legend Comes Back to LIfe

I purchased this 933 in 1994. It won the SCCA Runoffs in 1981 and is on a factory race Poster in 1981.
Because of the way it was constructed at Road Atlanta in 24Hrs in 1980 it gained instant fame and was Dubbed Instant Legend by motorsports journalist Bill Oursler.
When I bought the car it looked like a 944. IT has been a long time coming back to it's original trim.
My good friend Noel Hall from Timonium Md did all the chassis work (it now looks better than new).
The car is now in Bob Woodman's race ship getting all the mechanicals straight. Vin number is 92A0490011, one of 16 made.
Myself and 2 other 933s and a GTR have registered for Rennsport Reunion in Sept.
The car will be returned to it's Poster Herman Miller livery.

That is awesome Clark! The photos look like the body work done on the car is really top notch. Please post more photos!

Matt,
I had to jump thru hoops to get those rear fender flares. I got the front air dam with the car and had to buy the front fenders from GT Racing. Thank God the front end fit together I had my fingers crossed. I actually got the rear flares from Tom Brennan who is still very much alive. What is ironic is he has chassis #10 in his stable plus another one. The 933s or 924DPs had a variation of fender flares and front air dams so I feel very lucky to have found what I needed.
The car is in Woodman's race shop about 175 miles from me in Beaufort, SC.
They are currently at a SVRA event at RA. When they get back I will get more pics. and post them up. To say the least I am getting excited.........24 years is a long time.

And are these the same DP cars that Peter Dawe woked? I know Trevor was working on one in the last few years. Peter has told me a couple pretty funny stories about when he was working on them back in the day.

Clark,

I'm curious about what appears to be welded in jacking points below the doors ... seems like a brilliant idea for a race car , wondering
if you can post some closer pictures when you get a chance !

Thank you !

Think the one Peter was working on was Scott Sanda's when he was contracted out to Kelly Moss. The first time I saw Peter was at the 48hrs in Sebring in 1995. He was working on Sanda's car so I was interested. I bought the 1981 winner and Scott bought the 1985 winner. Ironically enough a family in PIttsburgh who lived about 7 miles from me had 2 of these cars and both had won the runoffs and both had been driven by Brennan. They were both for sale at the same time. I opted for the car that was on the factory race poster. Scott Sanda's car won GT-3 in 1985.
The answer is yes these are the 924DP cars.....their real Porsche project number is 933. Many of them have been sold back to Germany. Freisinger has one on his site for $250,000 Euros with no race history. Hope he get's it.

Will post more pics on MOnday. Everyone of these cars was a little different if they were really raced (there are a few garage queens out there). If they were seriously raced the teams did little tweeks here and there to get more speed. My car has an adjustable sway bar (adjustable by the driver as he drives). None of the others have this sway bar.

Wow! That's awesome! Can't wait to see the pics when you get the livery back on it.

Great story, Clarke!

A friend and client, Dick Howe, has the Holbert DP 924 that Doc Bundy won the RunOffs (and launched his career) in. It’s a seeetheart!

That car looks well done, do you have any pictures of the engine bay if it is completed that far, and anything of the underside with it on a lift.

Peter,
I met Dick at the 48 Hrs in 1995. I bought my car in Oct 1994 and he bought his (if my memory is correct) in Feb 1995 from a shop in Wisconsin. The Bundy car had been owned by a member of the Pabst (beer) family. Ironically both cars were on factory race posters. Bundy in 1980 and Brennan in 1981.

Bob,
These are about all the pics I have. Will get some more next week. The motor is not in yet. WE have the motor ready to go. It is a 2,0L watercooled with webers. Lap times with me driving were the equivalent to a 944 Turbo race car
Sadly I only drove this car at 2 events. It was a lot of work. I ended up pushing it to the side of my garage in favor of 944s and 968s. I have dreamed of this restoration for 24 years and it is finally happening.
