The 308 IMO is an excellent Ferrari - the F40 was produced for five years like the CGT there were more than enough made vs the F50 350+ units.

Anyway here is a perfect example of owning a 959 F40.

On Top Gear, Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson both refer to the F40 as the "greatest supercar the world had ever seen". Clarkson also said the F40 is one of the most beautiful cars ever made. In series 16, episode 6, Hammond compared the F40 against its main rival, the Porsche 959. However, they never completed a lap on the Test Track, as the F40 failed to start and the 959 had problems with the turbos.

I'm pretty sure that was just top gear entertainment, and the owners just didn't want their cars tracked.

Maybe but I doubt it - those two competing would be a fantastic show.

This was an ongoing battle for Porsche engineers to beat the F40.

Sure would have been. It was quite a coup with Chris Harris managed to get an F40 and F50 together at the same time and was able to hoon the hell out of both. 959 vs F40 would have been a similar good time.

CGT and F40. I have no regrets for either. Both supercar pinnacle time capsules for their respective eras.

You clearly don't just by making this statement.

It's a little known fact but at the end the 959 technically won the top speed battle between the two. Porsche later offered a Stage 2 kit for the 959 that brings top speed to around 205-207.

Talked about extensively in the 959 thread
https://rennlist.com/forums/porsche-...-demand-8.html

Now whereas before the straight line performance between the two was very similar, the 959 with stage two would easily pass an F40.
But around a track an F40 I think would still be faster.

Yept - that's what I was referencing in my post and why the two going head to head would have been a great show.
