Default 2010/2011 cup at sebring!? awsome! strange?

dont get me wrong, awsome to see the hardware....and man, they rip like nobody's business...
but curious how is it that there are so many 2010, and even more wild, 2011 gt3 Cups to be at sebring.?

i think there were some 37 or so 2010 cups built, and the 2011s are way sold out, and i would have thought only were going to teams running full grandam, alms, or gt3 patron schedules (or good portions of the schedules).

maybe guys are using sebring to test their 2011s?

going to be an awsome showing of cup cars. just curious how the 2011s and so many 2010s will make their way to sebring??

2010's were sold new from pmna to teams and private use for imsa and alms, at 1 point in the year they had a few (2-3) extra's and a few lucky guys got them for private use.

2011's are sold out and all of them i have heard are going to shops and privateers that will race in IMSA, ALMS.

I was told there are non available for private use, but that can change.

My guess is all those cars are testing, and many will return to the north once the east coast thaws.

Steve,

We plan to do some testing during the PCA event with 2-3 2010 cars as the ALMS and Patron Winter Tests are the following week and we will stay right through.

I do know that many others are planning to do the same and with the 2011 Cup car allocation already gone, most will be down there if they get their cars in time.

For 2011, Grand Am is allowing the 6 special 2011 Rolex Cup cars just about anything you can think of for upgrades that are legal for the GT class. The motors are sealed but the headers and exhaust are open just like WC.
Gearing is free and in fact, you can run an RSR gearbox if you have the budget!
We are running the stock gearbox for the 24 but with revised gearing, although the new 2011 Cup comes with shorter gears than the 2010 Cup.

The 2011 Cup can run at 2600lbs without driver so you can/have to gut the car and replace some bodywork with carbon, again like WC.

Testing is next weekend.........we'll see how that goes!

James,
Can you tell us a bit about the "09 GT2" that you're racing in GT-1R? Any pictures? Is that the car in your avatar?

I am waiting to showcase the car before I give the specifics but it's a 997 GT2 spec car built on a Cup car chassis built to World Challenge GT specs..........should be fun.

The car in my avatar is the 2008 WC Cup that I sold last August........not the GT2. I need to update that to my 2010 WC Cup.

But we haven't dyno tuned the motor and I hope to have it done before the event. We have 12 other Cup cars to get ready for this season and those take priority but we should have this car done soon.......I just hope in time for the Sebring PCA event.

Btw, am I in the right class for this type of race car in PCA........GT1R? I am not that familiar of the PCA race classes outside of GTA and GTC 2-5.

Thanks,

GT1R (or S) is the correct class for a turbocharged water cooled engine. I don't think you could make the car heavy enough or reduce the displacement enough (within reason) to run in GT2R.
