Default How to Make a 997 Cup Exhaust quieter??

Hi Guys,

We have issues with some tracks where we can't run because th db is too high.

Is there an easy bolt on solution to make the car quieter??

I would prefer this, rather than changing the exhaust.

It is also the intake resonance that adds to the noise.

I stuck some silencers in the muffler and some fuel cell foam in the intake for Lime Rock. It met the sound limits but was running too hot.

Thanks Mike,

Sounds a little costly if something goes wrong!

When I was with TRG at The Glen this year for the PCA Club Race, they were pulling the "steel wool" packing out of the exhaust from the Koni cars, that had just finished at Lime Rock. Works to tone the noise down, but for sure cuts down on power. I say "steel wool" cuz that's what it looked like, but I'm not sure exactly what it was.

there is a kit from Porsche motorsport in Germany. we use it when we go testing since the supercup and even the carrrera cup cars are too loud for the test days.

I can help if you want.

you can buy 997 cup 08/09 european silencers ( they are similar to the 997 gt3 street car lateral silencer) but you put 20 kg on the back of your car.....

It all depends on whether you get statically tested or break the noise limit dynamically. If it's dynamically, you'll need to pack it... If it's static, because the engine is at the back vs most other cars, play with your motec system for it to show more revs than what you're really giving it - that's what scrutineers look it. Then when you get on the track, revert to the right map and numbers.
It's a shame that scrutineers don't make exceptions for Porsches but hey, this system I just mentioned worked at all UK tracks... we never set the beacon off dynamically but always had static problems until we used the motec dash to our advantage
