Default Question from cup car admirer

What is the hand lever on the shifter for, on the sequential shifter cars?

I imagine it could be a reverse lockout, throttle blipper, or hand clutch?

Thanks in advance,
Frank

It also seems to help getting into 1st but it could just be a mental thing...

It is used for two things:

From 1st gear, shift down one more with the lever pulled for neutral and one more time for reverse

It is only needed for shifting from 1st to nuetral. Basically a neutral lockout.

Patrick I just looked to see if you were coming West this week to Laguna for the IMSA race. You're not listed and it appears you only ran Indy this year. You did well there, I'm surprised to see you didn't compete in the rest of the series. So what are your plans for next year?....

Hi John: I have sat out much of this year because of work schedule. Too much work travel - if I add a bunch of racing in the mix, my family starts to hate racing. I am doing IMSA next season with an 08 though.

By the by, were you at Daytona?

No, too far me. I did Miller Motorsports in Salt Lake City last month but that's about the end of my racing leash....

I'll look forward to wacth you via live timing at IMSA next year. When do you expect delivery of your new 08' Cup?...

Thanks, John! The new cars are to be delivered late November.

Exact details of the car are still a bit foggy. While someone posted earlier that they are the widebody, others have disputed that. What I do know is that they are ~20PS more than the current car.

Are you going to Sebring?

I just may have to go next year with all those 80 or so Cups that run there...
