Default 991 GT3 Cup Throw out bearing noise...

All, I was lucky enough to purchase a 2014 911 GT3 Cup this past weekend. This is my first Cup car, so there are more questions than answers at this point - lots to learn. Anyway, when the car idling running with the trans in neutral (clutch out), the trans definitely sounds (IMHO) like it has a bad throw out bearing... Sounds like a marble on a roulette wheel... I asked the seller about it right away, and he assured me that is "normal" for the 6-speed sequential transmissions in the Cup cars. I was pretty hesitant, but I didn't have any experience to support otherwise... The Trans was rebuilt by CoTrans about 33 hrs ago, so that would seem to further support his claim.

Anyone else out there who has a 991.1 GT3 Cup that might be able to help shed some light on if this is normal or not?

I can tell you both of the 991 Cups I've owned made noises out the box and drive train that sounded all hell was about the break loose, all normal. Hard to tell by your description if what you're hearing is the normal Cup car sound.

Probably some videos you can find on youtube with in car views where you can hear transmission noises to compare. The ones I watch all sound the same as my 997. Nuts and bolts flying around in a coffee can is pretty much how I'd describe it.

A vibrating box of gravel at idle. Solid clutch disk and solid mounts on trans and engine will transmit all the Great sounds to you !

Sounds about right.

If you can, find another 991.1 / 991.2 / 992 Cup car and have a listen, They all sound about the same at idle with regards to gearbox noise.

Normal. Clutch out, sounds like horrible clattering metal. Push clutch in and it should quiet down significantly. that's all normal

At idle, you wonder how they keep running with all the various noises. Then you get it rolling, plant the throttle and it all makes sense.

All, thank you for your responses!. Seems like everyone so far has a very similar experience. @Oddjob, I looked for some YouTube video's, but I couldn't find any that were really with the car at idle. Your "Nuts and bolts flying around in a coffee can" is a perfect description! Same thing for @carbondan, sounds horrifying with clutch out, but then clutch in and all the "nuts and bolts in the coffee can" seem to 'find a home' and everything seems to be as it should. Thanks all - I'm certainly relieved that I'm not looking at a major transmission repair right out of the gate.

Corey - here's one example. This is a 997 (on the street...), but the sequential should sound similar in a 991. Listen right at the beginning and then again around 0:45 to 1:00 mark. Can hear the trans spinning in neutral, rattling, and then go quiet when he engages the clutch.

@Oddjob, yep, that confirms it. Thanks for sharing that! How that sounds should ever be 'normal' is beyond me, but that is exactly how it sounds. I appreciate it!
