how to load/secure a 991.1 cup in a trailer?
the car has a very flat bottom and wouldnt want to remove bottom panels for loading.
what is the best way to secure it? I used axel straps this weekend through the wheels but it seems very sub optimal and not feasible at all until the car has cooled down.
car is pretty wide so getting D rings to fit the wheel bolts are not feasible unless I put some 2x10 down so I can clear the trailer wheels
my trailer is an 24' ATC

Heh Marc, i bought my 991.1 Cup in July and i'm loving it - i have a Trailex Enclosed trailer and i started with tie down straps with tie down hooks that connected into the jack points front and rear. The previous owner had open trailer but in an enclosed trailer with limited access this is a pain and a 2 man job so i had my shop install tie downs underneath the car. They fit on the front jack points and on the rear sub frame and this is much much easier. Its still a little tight getting under as these cars are low so I did get an exhaust burn scar after loading the car when it was still warm... I also winch my car on as the clutch is more on and off, i can drive it off ok though as that's easier. PM me if you want to compare notes. Bummer about your old car as i was there for the PCA race last year and saw the carnage.

Having a hard time visualising this. By wheel bolts, do you mean transportation rings that fit under the wheel nut? That's what I use with tie downs to D-rings in the trailer floor. There is not much of an angle to the tie down straps off the longitudinal centreline, but the car does NOT move sideways on the aluminum tread plate over rubber coin flooring.
problem is car is too wide for them to fit in enclosed ATC 24 as the rings would hit the wheel wells of the trailer. so that is why I was thinking putting in 2 2"x10"x10' planks so the car sits high enough to clear them
I will investigate the tiedown suggestion by @hollmatt

Now that I understand, I think I would use the planks as you suggest. I doubt the car would move around on them and if you cut an angled ramp on the ends of the planks it should be smooth. It's just not an issue in my trailer and I'm surprised it is in yours.

I'm running just a 24x8 CarMate and with transport rings on the car fit perfectly. Bone stock trailer and car, rings clear inner fenders no problem.
2x12 risers I used in the last trailer but it was just so annoying having those things on the floor all the time... plus with how that trailer was set up, to get the load evenly distributed the beaver tail cause some issues when installing the boards. never again...
Tie straps through the wheels work fine but don't hold the car as well. On bumpy roads they'd almost always have some slack in 'em, with the tie down rings the car doesn't move at all.
Im also a tad ODC and after my final pre-race alignment/corner balance I'd hate to knock something out just a tiny bit putting straps through the wheels.
FWIW Im thinking about selling my to get into a larger rig that can haul 2 cars and all gear.
Great trailer for the money but I should've just bought the gooseneck right out of the gate.
Its a 2020 with just the njmp and summit race on it... so ~520 miles from new. Winch with wireless controller.

I would not rely on the 996 Cup center lock rings / with tie-down hook.
The overlap is soo little. Emergency braking and one might disconnect.
I am doing it this way: I wrap the tie-down around he axle part of the wheel.
There are other ways too, but i figured this is a safe way that is also mild to your alignment.

I have long Macs Axle straps that go through the wheels (once cool) and then I cross the tie down straps.
Take 5 minutes to tie it down. Use a winch to pull it into the trailer and get a remote (lots of inexpensive retro kits to make non-remote winches "remote").
Just finished towing back from VIR to Jacksonville (8+ Hours). No issues. ATC Quest CH305 24'.

Sometimes I load my car into the trailer a couple minutes after last practice (when I want to get home asap), so quite hot.......
These ATC trailers are huge, I don't even think 102" width is even legal in Europe, but these wheel arches killing the space
That's the other option with some wheels (my ex TT)
