Auto On Headlight Retrofit? - '06 Cayenne

How was it to change out? Did you have to cut the adhesive with something like fishing line and then use a new adhesive strip to attach the new one?

Hi all. Just a quick reply to this post. Changed the light switch for the autolight just yesterday and works great. Coming home coded with durametric like Carrera Cup did ( added 16 to the original code, didn't try to add 4 plus for the interior light because it already light up the interior just pressing the key. Don't need to open the door). Cayenne 955 v6 2006. don't have auto dim rear view mirror. the switch is the porsche one. Adding +1 like durametric suggest enable lights in the MFD but will throw DTC's. adding 16, after a couple of short test all modules everything was good, no cell's

I am revisiting this after a few years, durametric still can not deal with this module on 957s, and I doubt it ever will after 4 years now.
The module looks like it uses long coding on the 957s vs the older 955s. At least when I scan it with my newer vag-com cable I traded up to last year.
I had a switch I got for 60 bux 3 years ago, I sold it since I could not get it to work, I see they are over 110 now. Anyone willing to lend me one and see if I can figure this out? If so you of course get your switch back either way and adulation from all the 957 owners if I can figure this out.
I was able to write adaptations to the relevant modules, but long coding is new to me and I need to research it a bit. The short coding is what works for the 955s.
I know this can be done, as some said dealer enabled it for them.
This is my module and my coding, with no dimming mirror or auto switch on my 2009.

Ok, I think I got it now this is from ross-tech on the same module in the Touareg T2 and newer I guess, looking at my coding from above, things seem to match up on my Cayenne, but no promises here:

I was able to enable the required settings on a 2009 957 with vag-com, and appears to work, as I have the delay off setting in the MFI now. Just need to order a switch.

Success, you need to enable the first bit in the byte code (Byte 04 Bit 0 Assistance Driving Light) along with the Coming home and Comfort options, then everything works with the auto switch on the 957.

Hi. I Just wanted to say thank you for the original posters of this thread.
Replaced my non auto switch (7L5941531B) with an auto switch (7L5941531C)
and the rain sensor (7L0 955 559) with a rain/light sensor (7L0 955 559A) and it all works. No coding required to get the lights to work properly but I don't have a lights option in the comfort menu. UK spec 03 Turbo.
Took about 10 mins.
The light switch is easy.
For those who don't want to search the entire thread, here is a summary.
Switch Instructions here http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...eplacement.htm
The mirror is also easy. Remove the clam shell covers carefully - they just pop apart, slide the rear view mirror down and off, and pop out the back of the sensor. Clip the new one on and done.

Correct, you need a hex-can vag-com cable, or a PIWIS.
Go on clubouareg.com, there are folks there that advertise areas they are willing to help someone for free as in beer.
I am in the Boston area if anyone wants help.

I'm about to get a vag-com cable, so can supply coding info from a U.K. Spec car if that would help anyone. My question is which cable to get? I take it that it just works with no modification to the cable.
So, a new hex v2 or a used hex+can cable? Any difference?
Thanks very much

Just took my car into Bellevue,wa Porsche dealership and was told it is not possible to install this switch in my 08 Cayenne. After I told them it is possible they rolled there eyes and said "oh you must have read it on the internet" 🙄
If anyone knows of someone in the Seattle area please pm me.

Hi Toureg,
I don't think I can send PM's yet so will drop the question here.
I have a '08 Cayenne S without the auto headlight feature. I have purchased a new light switch with the auto selector but being a 957 it doesn't want to work.
I have read though a heap of posts and you seem to be the man who is getting this to work.
In a post you say the module needs to be coded with a hex-can vag-com cable which I have purchased off fleabay and am waiting for it to be delivered. My question is what software did you use?
Did you use the free VCDS-Lite software and was it able to make the changes to the module or did you have to purchase a different version?
Thanks,
Dale - Perth Australia
