Auto On Headlight Retrofit? - '06 Cayenne
New Porsche owner here, recent convert from Merc ML. Sorry for the lame question, but I did search for an answer before posting....
Bought an '06 Cayenne S for the wife - Is there any way to convert the manual headlight on/off switch to one with the Auto On/Off feature?
Thanks in advance.

Do you mean Daytime Running Lights? So that hte headlights come on when you start the vehicle?
This is a PIWIS flash that the stealer will do for you.
In some countries, it is mandatory, not in the US.

Sorry, I didn't explain it properly. I am basically looking for the ability to make the headlight controls automatic instead of manual. So that when it gets dark the headlights will turn on automatically.
On my Audi and ML, there's an "auto" setting on the dial in between off and on.
Any way to make this work on a Cayenne that is currently manual?

My 2006 Cayenne Turbo has the auto function on its headlights. If I recall, my 2004 Cayenne S also had auto headlights. Look at the headlight switch and see if it says "Auto" at the 12 o'clock position. If so, turn the switch to that position and you have enabled the "Auto Driving Light" feature. If your car is not equipped with this feature from the factory, and you THINK you can simply upgrade to this feature as an OEM update, I have three words for you.......... "DON'T GO THERE!"
Trust me, this is not something that can be done if it's not done at the factory.

Hard to believe but that was an option. I remember well because I was shocked that it was... Anyways, I just looked up my MSRP sticker and it was a $610 option package:
PO4 Light Comfort Package w/Driver Memory Package
Includes automatic headlamps, sourtesy lights on exterior mirrors, dimmer controlled interior lighting, self-dimming interior and exterior mirrors, and programmable homecoming illumination in conjunction with Comfort/Sport seats or driver memory package.
I copied above from Edmunds.com for the 2009 model but the 2006 was pretty much the same package.

I agree with the comments above - this is not something done easily.

I know what you mean about the wheels... I really like the look of the Sport Technos on the 996. Maybe I'll get a set of those for Summer, and keep these for Winter.
Not sure yet - at this point I'm just glad to own a Carrera, and glad to be home.

auto is standard on canadian vehicles because of the drl regulation-----you can hav the drl activated via piwis but then you will have headlamps on all the time as they are the drl on the cayenne----

We sold a new Cayenne Turbo. The customer took delivery of the car and brought it back the next day complaining of the same missing light sensor. We tried both through service as well as an aftermarket company to add the light sensor and we were not successful. We ended up backing the deal out because of this!
