You really haven't asked the question in context. The GT series turbos that are used on 911s typically are GT28s or GT35s. So, looking at the compressor maps, the GT31 is inbetween. What turbine choice, what engine displacement, which Porsche model for that matter?

Geoffrey, I was actually just asking about the turbo in context or comparison to other brands. Reliablity, quickness of response, things like that. The engine is a built motor, 3.8 with Mahle pitons and cylinders, Sch\rick cams and spring set and custom g31 turbos. Everything done on the engine was top drawer but I have never had a car with garrett turbos before so thought I would ask for some personal experience.
thanks

OK, I believe the g-31 to be a custom turbo for this particular 3.8 application.
Let me pare the question down and ask about peoples experience of garrett turbos as opposed to other makes then. I am coming from NA italian car world and big block sc world so no experience with turboed 6cyl cars and am just trying to see if Garrett is a top quality manuf. or if there are other brands prefered. Does that help refine the issue? thanks

Turns out they are g-28 turbos. Its a 3.8 tt with Schrick cams, Mahle pistons, Motec m48 and was built by Mode.
Makes 643hp and 600ftlbstq. Its the fastest car i have ever driven and that includes some very nice cars. Very linear, like a train, yet not too much for regular driving. We even got stuck in a 4 hour traffic jam in Seattle on a hot sunny day and she handled it just fine.
