Question Sources for 100-cell race cats??

Hey guys. I've searched online and I can't seem to find a source for these race cats seperately other than at FVD. A bunch of sites refer to them as German made race cats so I assume there is a manufacturer somewhere over there. I only need the convertor itself and maybe the transition cones.

Does anyone know the manufacturer of these parts or will I have to pay $500 each to get em from FVD?

Thanks,

You might try Joe at Fabspeed to see what he can do for you.

May seem kind of off the wall, but...

I just got a new "Jegs" catalog and they have bare (weld in) sport / race cats marketed by Dynatech listed that look very similar (4" Dia, 11.5" long)similar to the ones used by Cargraphic for the 993's. $150 a pop., three different pipe diameters, 2.25, 2.5 or 3"

Hope the info helps.

No knock on the hot-rod lovin,' nitromethane snortin' folks at JEGS, but I believe there really IS an internal difference between a $500 Cargraphic or FVD cat and a knockoff. I would try to find a good used set of 100-cell Euro cats on eBay before I went the Hot Import Nights route with a new $150 part.

If both cats are foil based then there probaly isn't much of an issue. The grade used in an Alfa-4 type and will work the same. Probably rolled to 0.0015" which gives it a smaller cross section than a ceramic monolyth.

On the other hand, if either happens to be ceramic I wouldn't touch it.

Princeton:

Just a word to the wise,...

Most of these 100 cell cats do not "catalyze" well enough and OBD-II cars can throw a secondary oxysensor out-of-range range code.

Caveat Emptor on those things.

Thanks Steve. My project has now taken me down a different path so I won't be needing these .

Steve,
What happens if the cats are removed completely? I've heard a few say that the car needs some backpressure. Also that the stock cats aren't too restrictive.
Thanks,

Hi Alan:

Removing the cats on naturally aspirated 993's reduces overall power, especialy below 5000 RPM.

They are VERY well done and in fact, the 993 Cup cars had stock HE's, cats, and no mufflers. That setup also kills low RPM torque, but adds a tad more high RPM HP and it didn't matter for competition anyway,....

Cats are not nessessary with a turbo car...unless it is an OBD-II. Anyone figure out how to fool the computer into thinking all is ok when running with just stright pipes?

200 cell cats will not throw the cel btw so you can still go that route
