My ‘18 V6 E-hybrid is also loud during warm days, both during driving and afterwards. The sound is a rhythmic ’rur rur’ but it’s hard to describe.

Does anyone else have their front wipers hit the A pillar during operation? I had to switch the driver/passenger side blades since the longer one (supposed to be drivers side) was running way over on the a pillar, and it seems to sit ‘high’ when not in use. Any adjustment other than removing it physically?

I still love the car almost a year later. Since I have a short commute and plug in nightly on 110V I am getting 1000+ miles to a tank, but always have to have the engine up to temperature coming from Malibu going from PCH to the 10 in the tunnel 😎

Yeah, exactly. It's been extremely hot these days, like 40 - 45 degrees Celsius and i had been driving for like 10 hours at higher speeds. So makes sense.
I dont have the issue you mention with the blades though, though i must admit im not too impressed with there quality, ill probably change them in the winter.

As for the milage, yeah, i barely have to top up the tank since i daily drive short commutes as well, but basically a full tank + full batter, on a long drive will give me 800km+ Super happy with this car and doubt ill change it for at least the next 10 years!

I use Bosch Aerotwin blades on my Panamera. They are less than half the price of blades from the Porsche dealer and work better as well £29.72 for a twin pack of both blades.

I wonder who made the battery for the Panamera Hybrids. I hope it is not LG in Poland, whose EV and Hybrid battery technology is under investigation by the US Dept of Transport, following a number of fires and recalls.

So I’m guessing the valves that control the exhaust / sport exhaust will need to be replaced. Back to dealer on Tuesday so they can investigate, then make an appointment to fix it. Ugh.
Update: After my car spent more than a month at the dealer, the problem is unresolved, and Porsche now claims the car is "state of the art" and the noise is normal.
  • they localized the noise to the exhaust gas of the turbos ... even though it sounds like it is coming from the rear
  • the replaced the "pressure cans" on the turbos
  • it did not fix the noise, so they contacted Porsche
  • 3 weeks later I got a note that I can pick up my car as the noise cannot be fixed
  • (I was unimpressed to received such a note as one might imagine with a < 4 year old $200+ car that has had this issue since new)
  • a service manager told me it was "normal air-flow in the moment of a gear change when the air pressure goes down" ... it is "normal" and present on other Panameras
  • they sent me a video of another car making the same noise (attached) ... this is the same noise I have but could never get it this clearly on video
  • I asked for an office letter from Porsche stating this was normal, especially so I have this when trading it in or selling to a 3rd party. Surprisingly, I actually got a formal email the next day from Porsche of Switzerland which read: We regret that you have concerns about the noise in your Porsche Panamera. We would like to reassure you that your concerns have been addressed with our technical department at Porsche Schweiz AG and the manufacturer with the necessary accuracy. We can confirm that your vehicle is state of the art and that no further technical measures are planned to eliminate the noise. The noise is not a defective noise. It does not impair the functionality of the vehicle in any way. Comparable vehicles also show this characteristic.
On a subsequent road trip, the noise is present under acceleration at highway speeds, and constant when accelerating up mountain roads after each switchback ... which can mean triggering the sound dozens of times when roadtripping here in Switzerland. To add insult to injury, I had an error come up 3-4 times on my road trip this week "faulty left dipped beam headlight" ... though it doesn't happen all the time.

For the record, my < 4 year old car with only 22k km on the clock has had the following:
  • above mentioned turbo waste-gate sound upon upshift under load, particularly when accelerating uphill - issue present from new
  • tire pressure monitoring system not calibrating after my first 2 seasonal wheel changes requiring visits back to the dealer both times after picking up the car from wheel change; okay in subsequent seasons after software update
  • air conditioner died just after crossing the border into France for a roadtrip -- spent 4-5 days on vacation with no air-conditioning ... luckily wasn't too hot just a bit humid so car wasn't too uncomfortable but noticeable - fixed upon return
  • left rear light cluster error message - upon first visit cleared error and said all was ok - triggered on next drive again of course, and left rear light cluster ended up being replaced
  • now, I received the dipped beam headlight error
I love the car and the specs I chose, and now the Sport Turismo is dead, so I can't replace it with a new one. So pondering if I keep it, or go for an RS6 (fear it won't handle as well) or new BMW M5 Touring? Or go a bit smaller and get a BMW M3 Touring?

I just received a letter, dated 24July2024, from Porsche North America Inc., informing me the warranty for 2014-2018 Panamera & Cayenne High-Voltage Battery Control Units (PN 2794) has been extended to 20 years.

I wonder if Porsche UK will offer a similar extension of warranty. My guess is no. Most auto companies in the USA are afraid of action from the US government, whereas in the UK, it would be policed by the wholly incompetent Department for Transport who are completely toothless and staffed by civil servants, whose only aim appears to be to stay in a job until their incredibly over-generous final salary scheme pension starts. Most of them have not been seen in the office since 2020, "Working" from home.

@bjterp00 That noise upon upshift I would investigate how the engine releases intake pressure upon quick throttle close, as that is what happens upon the upshift. In a traditional system there is a blow off valve which upon to release the pressure, in a rally car this sounds like a bird tweeting, but something here is making a similar noise. Could be a hairline crack in a tube and therefore the sound escapes. Just a line to investigate.

I wonder why the keyless entry system of the Panamera is so erratic. When I walk away from the vehicle, with the key, sometimes it locks itself sometimes it doesn't. There seems no rhyme or reason why it chooses to do one or the other.

Personally, I don't have it set up to auto lock. However, I have found that the auto unlocking is sometimes hampered if my key is "blocked" by my RFID wallet, cellphone, or even coins in my pocket.
Hope this helps...

Mike,

I don't use an RFID wallet except for my spare key if I am taking both keys, when for example I am going down to my other house in the south of France for 5 months. I have even experimented, holding the key up at head height while walking slowly away from the car. Sometimes it self locks but sometimes it doesn't. I think a sensor (? in the rear view mirror) needs to detect the key receding, so maybe the angle one walks away from the car has something to do with it.

I just purchased a very slightly used 2023 Panamera 4S E Hybrid to replace my 2011 Panamera S. Both are great cars.

Had a nightmare with my Panamera this morning. Came back after three weeks away with relatives in Barbados over Xmas and New Year, to find Panamera totally dead. I suspect the alarm may have been sounding although the only call I received from Vodafone UK, the security admin and provider was in the middle of last night (and very welcome it was too - cough cough to a jet lagged customer). The car did not react at all to both keys, changed the batteries in both with no result. For the first time in over seven years, had to get the emergency mechanical key out to unlock. There was no blanking plug in the key slot (in the underneath of the driver's door handle with the handle pulled out) as there should have been and the key was very difficult to insert. With my weak arthritic fingers, I could not begin to turn the key, so had to fetch a pair of Knipex mini-channel lock grips to turn it. After around 4 attempts, the door finally unlocked but not a single light on inside. The boot lid would not unlock or open. Used my Noco mini-jump starter on the under bonnet/hood to activate the car, switched the mode to Sport and the lithium traction battery immediately started the engine, which now making an odd ticking noise, which has disappeared as the engine warmed. I have no idea why the battery went flat and may need to have both that and the ticking noise investigated (sounds like a hydraulic tappet problem).

Bummer, hopefully you have no further issues - was it plugged in while you were away?
