Default 971 coding for PSE

Reading another thread it seems my non PSE car has a different exhaust from PSE cars but still has valves? Am I reading that correctly? I do notice the car being louder on start up, but most cars idle high on cold start. It also gets louder when I turn on sport mode but I attributed that to the idle being increased. Is it possible to code a PSE button onto the PCM and if so who can do it, and is it worth it? On my Corvette these was a fuse I could pull to leave the sport exhaust open all the time, but those were simple vacuum actuated flaps.

A PIWIS III (or similar device like the Launch X431) should be able to code the PSE button in.

Someone else posted the whole process when they did their PSE retrofit with the actual hardware.

Thanks, I did read that post. I dont care to do all that tbh, as I'd probably spend 3-4K on an aftermarket exhaust if I wanted to do all that work. If the stock exhaust has valves too it would be nice to code it and go from there. I suppose with the PSE function on the valves stay open all the time? I dont know of anyone with a PIWIS and I'm not familiar with the Launch tool, but it looks promising for the price. I doubt the dealer would be interested in coding my car.

This looks neat, but I cant find anyone with firsthand experience with it.

I posted the instructions for the coding as you asked --not telling you to do the whole hardware install.

PSE button in the PCM will make the valves manually controllable, you can leave it on all the time if you wish. I've had it coded to my car using my PIWIS, not a big change even for my V8 to be honest, you would want to pair it with some hardware changes to get the most out of it.

Where were you able to get access to the PIWIS III? I wonder if anyone in Houston area like a Euro shop would be interested in doing this for me.

I purchased from @rnlst_log from this thread I had him remote into the system and perform the PSE coding for me at the same time of him activating the matrix headlight coding.

Are there no problems coding the PSE without having the hardware since you dont have or arent installing the pulse sender? I have the full set of instructions from the page you posted and it goes on to test the pulse sender. I am going to rent that PIWIS.

I did the PSE coding on my P4ST without installing PSE hardware. There is no problem at all. Sound is like everyone said, pretty anemic. In sport mode, you can hear a subtle rumble that’s it. Valve opens at start and then close. You have to rev up to >4000 rpm in order for the valve to open while driving. Pretty hard to do even on the freeway unless you are doing manual mode and keep the gear in 3 or 4.

The valves already open on mine when I step on it... Doesnt PSE make the valves stay open full time? You have the 3.0L or 2.9TT?

I would recommend having a solid power supply for flashing your vehicle. A trickle charger will not be enough to keep up with the voltage and amperage draw at the proper levels when coding.

It's also not advisable to be running the vehicle's engine when you are performing these operation.

I am going to use jumper cables from my truck. Its a solid 14V.

Yes, the sound you would hear in the cabin is mainly generated from the soundaktor that would be installed at the firewall just below the windshield.

Porsche shop manual calls for 100A, hopefully your truck can supply that.

I saw 90A in the manual but we’ll see. I am not renting the tool I’m buying an image from someone on this forum. He will remote in and do the PSE for free. I’m not expecting much but it’s better than nothing. This way I can have the PIWIS for maintenance next year instead of spending 300ish on a scan tool. Maybe I’ll DIY the actual exhaust later.
