Apparently the voice recognition module was a no cost option that unfortunately was not included in my 2018. However, Suncoast sells the module for $260 and my dealer charges about $500 to install it, for a total of about $760.
Those of you that have it, would you say it's worthwhile? Do you use it fairly regularly? I think it certainly would be nice to call someone from my contact list or instruct the navigation to go to a certain store, etc.. I know i can do it via Apple CarPlay and Siri, but my phone isn't always connected with the cable. Should I just bite the bullet and get it, or do you think I probably won't use it much?
I had the voice recognition installed in my 2018 Panamera about a year ago by Porsche of Delaware and the total cost was jus a little over $500 - parts and labor. They matched the SunCoast price for the parts. I do use it regularly but I also have a wireless connection to my IPhone.
It was included in my 2018, but I rarely use it, maybe a couple of dozen times in 3 years because it has such lousy voice recognition for me. It regularly interprets my request surprisingly inaccurately, like immediately making a phone call to a random contact when I asked for something completely different. I use an iPhone and Android, but my primary phone is an Android connected via Bluetooth and I get greater results simply by saying OK Google (call contact, change track, etc) while driving, sans the Navigation via the PCM. I really wish they would release the Android Auto version of PCM, but if I had to choose iPhone or Porsche voice module, it would be iPhone with a Wireless CarPlay USB Adapter added.
I use it regularly for setting navigation destinations or selecting music by artist from my SSD. It works well for native English words, but doesn't work well for non-English words. For example, saying "take me to 32 Cannery Row Monterey California" works fine, while saying "take me to Osteria del Mare" gets mangled into something quite different and useless even though that name is in my contacts, The same is true when you try an online search.

No need to pay for that ludicrous amount of money for it when it can be done without even going to the dealer.

Android Auto is released, and is inside PCM,it just needs to be activated.
Dealers refuse that, but fortunately it can be activated.

Is it possible to do without PIWIS? Doesn't it take Product Serial # + VIN to get an Activation Code in that needs to be input via PIWIS? Which means a dealer, or someone that does have PIWIS?
simaservis1108,
Can you explain how you activate voice rec without PIWIS or dealer interaction? I am interested in the feature, but not the price tag at the dealer ...
Adding to this thread. My new-to-me 2018 Panamera Turbo ST does not have Voice control either, pressing the button gives the "voice control not available" message on the touchscreen. So I ordered the Voice Control "module" from Suncoast. Here is what I received. Turns out it's not a module at all....it's just a license key to activate voice control with PIWIS. My buddy owns an indy Porsche shop with PIWIS 3, will have him activate it. I wanted to share this b/c I have not seen the info in any other thread that it's just a license key activation and there is no actual "module" installation required.
I hope it works for you. I tried the same thing. However, apparently not all PIWIS systems are created equally. There are some things that require the "official" version, or at least one that has all features functional. That's what I found out when I tried this. I have a friend with an official PIWIS, but doesn't have all modules enabled. I ended up having to have the dealer activate it. That license key(which you may want to delete because someone else could use that on their car before you get yours done) gets combined with other data from your car into an activation key that is entered into PIWIS. Anyway, basically you pay an installation fee to the dealer even though all that really happens is that they use PIWIS to code your car with the feature. Robbery, for what you are left with in the end.

Yeah my friend mentioned that. I already spoke w/ my dealer service rep too he said they can do it too. I agree it may require a dealer level PIWIS license b/c the activation code may require it to communicate w/ Porsche sort of like coding new keys.
Maybe I will save my buddy the trouble and just use the dealer.
