Default Has This Happened On Anyone’s 2018 Panamera

Weird thing happened to me today, I was driving around in my 2018 4s came to a stop light and a warning came on and said reverse gear not available. Then the car would not shift out of 1st gear, I hit the up shift paddle and it shifted to 3rd gear skipping 2nd completely. When I stopped again it wouldn’t shift out of 1st again, I was driving in auto not manual but It wouldn’t shift automatically. I turned the car off, started it again and everything went back to normal. I recently installed a race chip but I don’t believe any of the plugs went to any sensors that affect the transmission. Has anyone experienced this before?

Yes I have had this exact issue happen multiple times, not a good feeling and very unsafe. According to my SA Porsche is still working on a permanent fix for this, they tried applying a temp fix that didn't work. This has been going on for more than a year for me and I'm getting impatient with Porsche...

I also have had the same warning on my 2018 PPTST. The message stopped when I restarted the car.

Got this last summer, was told a software update was needed. I started the car and it wouldn't move. Shut it off and looked under it to see if there were any clues. Got back in and it was gone.

At this point, once I got this error, the car wouldn't shift gears until I turned the car off and restarted.

I believe this problem I had was caused by the Racechip that I put in because I have not had any problems since I took it out , a couple days after I created the original post.

Just got my TTST towed in with this problem. Same error message with trans stuck in 3rd gear. Only things I could point to as indicators before is several months of whirring sound which I had assumed was turbo related… also 2 or three times of power loss for 10 seconds or so… not sure if either of those are related to this transmission issue. I’ll post again once I hear back from dealer on this issue.

Got my car back from the dealer… they said it was software and updated the software under CPO warranty (would have been roughly $300 in labor). They also said this was a quite common known issue in 2018-20 Panameras… Which begs the question of why they don’t put out a campaign on this and fix the software issue on all cars…

I have a 2017 and it has happened twice in a year of ownership. Thanks for the info. Sounds like I'm due for a software update.

Yellow one came up on me a couple weeks ago, stuck in 3rd gear as well. A restart and it was gone.

This has happened to me a few times, typically while accelerating hard on an on ramp. The PDK will kick down a few gears and then I get the error message. Even numbered gears and reverse are then locked out until I stop the car, turn it off and then restart it. Once restarted, the error message goes away and the car drives normally. I’ve had the TCU updated a couple of times and recently had a full transmission service at 40k miles but it still happens occasionally. The dealer is clueless as to the cause. Not confidence inspiring by any means.
