I have a 2017 4S, and when driving very slowly in stop-and-go traffic the transmission does have a "clunk" to it when shifting in and out of second gear. I learned early on from reading about the experiences of other owners (not just 4S owners, but other models too), and from talking to the service manager at my dealership, that this behavior was "normal", and a known characteristic (problem?) of the PDK transmission. I have been driving the car for over two years now, and the situation has not changed: it didn't get worse, and it didn't get better, so it probably is "normal". My clunk is not very loud, however, so if yours really bothers you it may be worthwhile to have the dealer listen to it, just in case it is something else.

thanks for the relpy i don't think it's from the gearbox but from the axels/diff it's only when i turn the wheel and then drive at slow speed the car moves (jump feeling) to the left/right
Also when i drive in reverse and turn the wheel (to get out of a spot) i need to give it more gas (like a flat spot in the tyre) and sometimes i hear a noise (axle?)
i let the dealership listen to this sound and they told me it was normal that's why i ask if some of you guy's have this too

Are you talking wheels straight or it occurs with them turned? Wheels straight shouldn't be happening in the driveway and isn't related to the clunk you can get in traffic due to the PDK. If it is happens while turning when maneuvering during parking (particularly while adding in more steering input) you should be aware that cars with wider front tires have enough grip that the tire will first deform slightly before traction is broken as the wheel is turned and then the tire pops back over inline with the wheel when it does break traction. It's worse with less tire pressure and gets a little better with higher pressure.

Edit... Ya ninja'ed me, yeah, it sounds like you're getting what I'm describing above. Mine does this also and I've had it before with other cars.

It's normal for any car with this weight and front tire width, no amount of trickery can overcome the fact that the tires are wide enough and have enough weight on them to hold grip and deform the sidewalls slightly. The correction is inevitable as you continue to turn, the traction is broken, and the tire scrubs back over in line with the wheel. You may want to check your pressures, it does do it more with low tire pressure as that gives the tire a larger deformation and resulting correction after it breaks traction.

A thread about this appears from time to time. In one, a poster linked to a really cool explanation of the physics/geometry behind it.

EDIT: here it is. It's called the Caster effect. Check the video in here:

My 2014 - 4 does the same thing and I was told it is normal during slow sharp turns, tires loose grip. I don't notice it as much in warm weather. Really freaks out valet drivers

Not caster, but rather Ackerman geometry (error). Google Ackerman geometry.

There are active discussions on this topic on the M-B and BMW sites. Google will find it for you. Search for "crabbing" or "skipping".

Seems to be common in German vehicles. I haven't experienced it in Japanese (Toyota, Honda) or American vehicles.

Crabbing effect / sound and especially when the weather turns cold. Changed to all season tyres..... instantly cured.

Same here. Changed to all season tires and no issues since.
