New Corvette...
Chevrolet Will Target Porsche in C7 Advertising (already failed for me)
http://www.corvetteforum.com/article...dvertising.php
When you've got a winner, you take on all comers. That's the strategy Corvette and its ad agency are taking as the all-new 2014 Corvette Stingray hits the showroom floor in the third quarter of this year.
And guess who the Stingray will be taking direct aim at?
Our No. 1 [target] will be Porsche, said John Fitzpatrick, Corvettes marketing manager. We think we have a car thats comparable.
While Chevy says it will market the C7 toward the loyal faithful, it also wants to take away U.S. drivers who have always preferred European sports cars from Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi.
Chevy's ad agency, Commonwealth, Detroit, has a three-part strategy to woo such drivers behind the wheel of the new Stingray.
Of course, we all know about the four videos on YouTube and a camo version of the Stingray that appeared in the Gran Turismo 5 video game last fall.
Then there was the Stingray that was awarded to Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco after his outstanding performance this winter.
The third phase begins this fall when Stingray ads will show up in high-profile entertainment/sports programs and theaters.
If the campaign is successful, it might bring some sought-after younger blood to the Corvette showroom. The average Corvette owner is 55 as opposed to 48 for the Porsche.
One person who thinks the Stingray could be a real winner for Chevy is David Kiley, editor-in-chief of AOL Autos, who says it could become a halo car that attracts more 20-somethings and women to the rest of Chevys car and truck lineup with aspirational and engaging stories about the new Vette and Chevy brand [and] creative linkage to Chevy Cruze, Sonic and Equinox."
Of course, this "war" could be likened to trying to turn a Ford truck owner over to Chevy, and vice versa. Chevy's best hope may be to convince those riding the fence, who don't have strong loyalties to Porsche and other European brands.

So Corvette is actually going to do some advertising and promoting of this new Vette? Hope they are thinking outside the box and not just print advertisement and web and email blasts. They need to do a road show at a tracks across the country and target guys like us who track and drive Porsche's...for starters.

So there is healthy movement of 100k+ new cars, but fewer and fewer people who can go near them used. Supply and demand. At 100k new there is demand (healthy), used there isn't demand until they hit the 70s at best IMO (maybe lower)
I'm not even sure *who* buys 90k+ used cars really. I know that's well outside of my budget and supposedly I'm in a higher income bracket (never feels it). Most who can drop that kind of money can just find an extra 10k or so and buy new. Exception is maybe if you're waiting for a REALLY high dollar car (R8, Turbo, GT, etc) to come down to plausible...
Net net with a dead broke middle class the wealthy are going to be stuck with bigger depreciation hits for 100k cars! Lol

Subsidized leases create a depreciation drag as well. Move lots of expensive cars for an artificially low price via lease with a 100% chance of having to take them back. Once back reprice them for what the secondary market can/will bear regardless of what that means in terms of real depreciation from original msrp. From what I've seen porsche hasn't gotten into the "lease you can't refuse" game (yet). For bmw/mb that's almost the primary biz model.
NOTE: above thoughts are from a US perspective... I get that other markets are quite different
^ I was snooping around old S2000 listings and was suprised to see (many) of those cars of similar mileage and vintage as some well-optioned 996 and 986 (of moderate/high mileage) sell for about the same money -- despite being in totally different sticker price worlds when they were new.
I guess once the depreciation hits a certain price point the Porsche badge really carries no extra value. It might even hurt as people unwilling to spend a lot for a used sports car in the first place are really hesistant to buy a German car 4-9 years out of warranty, requiring over-priced parts and specialized labor. And the inventory is so deep for some of the Porsche series that produced more than 100K cars... higher and higher prices for 991/981 are virtually a guarantee that prices will crash hard before the warranty is even up. More inventory on top of excess inventory. That must at some point start to reflect poorly on the brand. Even a 1 million unit a year mass produced $5K Rolex watch (hardly exclusive) doesn't lose so much value in such a short time.

Went to Laguna Seca last weekend to try turn down tail pipes to help reduce couple more decibel to pass 92 db - my Z06 went over 92 db by 3-4 last time out even with the valve trick http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-z...5-seconds.html
Happy to see I was able to pass sound without issue this time
Tons a slow traffic and turn out to be a training day for safe passing techniques. It is harder than it looks because approaching speed from my Z06 is so great and I had to make sure passing is done safely for both parties. Still able to manage 1:39 in thick traffic. No new C7 and no new 991 yet
going so fast the orange club sticker was flying off top left windshield lol

Damn, this car looks good, why can't they drive decently well. I always wanted to have one, but specially after last week's visit, it will only get even further.
I think I will be hoarding older Porsches in the near future.
Need a 993 Turbo, a 964 C2 to drive around the 997 GT2 and a long hood with a 3.0
