New Corvette...

+1...I just got a ride in an 06 Ford GT last week from a new friend. He had installed a supercharger and other performance upgrades, it's pushing somewhere near 700 HP. Meticulously detailed and professionally done. A flawless and beautifully maintained car, red and white. Fastest car I have ever been in. Scary fast... I'm talking 3rd gear at 80+ mph and the tail starts starts going sideways under acceleration. He said it's not a track car so much , but great for roll ons, has seen 220 mph indicated. It was suprisingly comfortable, quiet and docile in traffic, until he stepped on the loud pedal...just insane! Sorry to get off topic, but it was crazy!

Well then, I guess the jokes on me. Don't know, didn't/don't care. He said it had around 500 hp stock and that he'd had it upped it to around 700 hp. Didn't catch exactly how he did it. I have driven several cars with 500 hp, hell our RS has 450. This car was no comparison. The fact remains, it was insanely fast. Sorry I missed the technicalities.

Possible 600hp Z06 should be easily crossed shopped over a more expensive than 997 PDK only GT3. The interior has come up too.
Now if they can stop them from blowing up.....

A track dependable Corvette is tempting at their price points and if the next GT3 really will be PDK only, I think I know where the the manual 3 pedal faithful will go:
The 2014 Corvette Stingray isn’t even in the hands of customers yet (though we have seen its first crash), but details are beginning to emerge about the next generation of higher-performance Corvette models. The good news is this: Chevrolet appears to have plans to launch both a Z06 and ZR1 version of the C7 Corvette.
According to Motor Trend, the next Z06 will get an updated version of the current car’s normally-aspirated 7.0-liter V-8, with as much as 600 horsepower on tap. That’s quite a jump from the 505 horsepower made by the Z06 in 2013, though the final output is dependent upon the next ZR1's power rating.
As we told you yesterday, GM is looking at both supercharging and twin-turbocharging to increase the output of its latest LT1 small block V-8, which debuts in the 2014 Corvette Stingray. While the first-generation ZR1 relied on supercharging to make its 638 horsepower, that recipe isn’t set in stone.
If GM can get better output and fuel economy from sequential turbocharging, expect to see that employed on the next Corvette ZR1, as well as the next Cadillac CTS-V. Rumor has it that Chevrolet is targeting the 700 horsepower mark for the next ZR1, which would clearly put the car at or near the top of the U.S. sports car food chain.
To protect its range-topping Corvette, Chevrolet will look to maintain a 100+ horsepower gap between the Z06 and ZR1. If the ZR1 doesn’t crack the 700 horsepower mark, don’t expect to see the Z06 break 600 horsepower.
As good as the current Z06 and ZR1 are, the positive news in all of this is that the next generation cars will be even faster and more capable. As for when they’ll debut, don’t expect to see either model in dealer showrooms for at least a year, as Chevrolet wants to generate Corvette Stingray (and Stingray convertible) sales before introducing new variants.

And money for the leather Corvette jackets and gold chains!
j/k (a little) as I'm a ZR1 owner. The ZR1 has been and is nearly bulletproof on track. The LS7 has had some issues, but there are workarounds nowadays and it doesn't seem to affect most of the LS7's on the road/track.
I'm intrigued by a dual-clutch even though I love rowing the gears. I'd like an option for a dual-clutch in the Vettes, but it appears to still be in development and we are stuck with a normal automatic for the base Vettes. No one knows yet exactly what is to come with the C7 Z06 and ZR1.
I've had 3 Vettes (an '01 C5, an '08 C6 (LS3), and now my ZR1). All have been very durable on track. Only issues I've ever had are brake pads, rotors, and tires. Maybe I've just been lucky, but that is one reason I've stayed with Corvette is they've been good to me. Trust me, if one of them blew up on track, I have very, very little patience, so I'd probably be driving a GT3 now. But, they've been good and I've had fun.
Looking forward to the coming C7 Z06/ZR1 battles against the ever improving GT-R and the upcoming 911 series GT cars from Porsche. Fun times to be a DE guy.

Seeing that Corvette at Road Atlanta gave me visions of myself in a bowtie car once again.......
Once these motors are tried in the real world, I'm all over it. There are some guys that have no business going as fast as they are doing mid-high 1:20's at road atlanta with basically what would amount to a C6Z RS (aero, tune, exhaust brakes), missing apexes, blowing turns. You would be shocked at their times after seeing video of me following them. Cars easily capable of Cup Times with AC blowing, Air Bags, all of the amenities. Insane what they can do. And the new car will be even better.

I read a lot about Vette reliability issues on Rennlist, but my real world experience has been quite different. There is a large contingent of C6 Z06 track guys in NorCal and they have been very very reliable.
