Outrageous Rip-off or Common Sense Supply & Demand?
20" RS Design Spyder wheels are the topic. They are, I hear, very popular. We ordered them on our '17 Macan S: cost = $1650. Not cheap, but "reasonable." So last week I was at the dealer for service on our Carrera GTS and there was a Macan (4 banger) on the lot with these wheels. I studied the window sticker. Can you believe that on the "cheaper" Macan the list price on these "very same" wheels is $3300??!! TWICE the price as ordered on the S model, for which they are still at $1650, per the PCNA website. I know what I think. What do you think about this situation??!!

I think the prices reflect differences in 'base' equipment. Another example is the Burmeister system ... Different prices depending on the standard system it replaces. Could be wrong? Educated guess.

Looks like that is the "Suggested" part of MSRP. It's still the first time I've heard of a dealer deviating from the price set by PCNA on a new (not used) car. Hell, at $3300 that's what the 21" turbo wheels cost me.

This. The option price is the delta from the base feature. It varies because the base feature varies. This is common across a variety of options.

Look at navigation, it's free in the 991 and Cayenne, but the Macan, Cayman and Boxster it's a paid option.

I generally find the optional wheel on any car, far too expensive. They are delivering the car with wheels anyway. Sell what it comes with and go get another set? But I need snow rims anyway.
3300 option sticker? Well I guess someone checked that box when ordering.
Is that about not about 30% of the price increase up to the next model up?

We know that as the models move "up" the line, there are material, technical & features additions that define S vs Turbo vs GTS, for example. I guess that gives PCNA wiggle room on optional extras pricing. Here's my WAG: no way did that base Macan cost the dealership all that much more due to the optional wheels, so putting the 20' wheels on and making it that more attractive to a walk-up buyer benefits them because they can easily discount the MSRP right from the get-go...by at least $1650. All that said: I didn't see Connection Plus on the window sticker; was guessing dealers would order that on all in-stock cars. I'm still ticked off that we left it off our order and only after having taking delivery found out that we couldn't get Sirius XM Traffic...but that's a different thread.

To continue beating a dead horse:
The sticker price for individual options does not represent the absolute value of the option.
It represents the *delta* cost to add that option to the submodel you are ordering. With higher standard equipment level, the relative cost of the improved option is small on the sticker.
If a set of wheels costs Porsche $3300 including profit margin, you will pay $3300 for those wheels no matter what the badge on the back of your vehicle says.
