+1. Low-end torque more important than hp in daily driving. I apologize that my fellow Americans are short-sided and stubborn.

Drive them "both" and decide. I know that you can't drive the Macan diesel, but you can the Q5... Drive the Macan S, or Macan Turbo to see how it handles and then the Q5 to see if you like the engine. Short of going to Germany for a weekend, this is best you can do.

Not so stubborn here. I've had diesel pickups since 98 (actually, only on my 2nd one now at 12 years old and going strong), an E320 Bluetec and now a Cayenne diesel.

I'm a fan of diesel power.

That's sort of the plan. Test driving the Macan S this weekend, I think. Since we have a Cayenne diesel, I'm familiar with the engine. And, to be honest, it's not that much different than the 3l Bluetec in the Mercs. Very solid engines.

Does anyone have any thoughts on just upchipping the Macan S, maybe it costs $2k vs 10K for the Turbo and you get 75% of the improvment in HP I think? That savings would buy a lot of gas.

No such thing seems available in U.S at this time. Once available, one will need to weigh potential loss of warranty. Anyway, at this point a red herring.

Well, skiaah, what did you decide? Macan Turbo or Diesel?

Boxster S!

(Figured if we were going for fun, why not go all the way?)

Haven't ordered yet; still tweaking the configuration, but we're almost ready.

Clean diesels are appropriate for SUVs and trucks.

I would be concerned about resale of a Porsche diesel. May be ok but rolling the dice for me. Not proven in the market for Pcars yet.

My philosophy is to get the most hp as I believe the resale is better and more fun for ME to drive in the meantime.

Not buying a car without driving it first...but that's just me.
