Sounds like the Macan S is your answer then, especially if for you the handling and power difference with a C4S is only a "bit better". Sounds like the versatility and lower price point are the important factors for you, so the Macan S is the best option for you. But if you're not sure, I'd wait until you are.

I just went through a similar decision process, although I was looking for a daily driver to replace my 2002 C4S. We have an Audi SQ5 (distant cousin of the Macan) in the garage already, so I didn't really need another small SUV. The appeal of the Macan to me was that I could get into a brand new AWD Porsche for a daily driver. I realized that they were very different cars, but the appeal of a new Porsche with a full warranty is strong.
Ultimately, I decided that I couldn't give up a proper sports car. I ended up buying a CPO 997 turbo cabriolet.

The SQ5 has been fantastic. It's luxurious and comfortable, and the supercharged engine is wonderful, especially up at altitude where I live. We are really enjoying the vehicle. I fit it with 19" wheels and Nokian winter tires when the weather turns cold. It's hard to beat Audi Quattro in slippery conditions.

having owned both the cars you noted.
no comparison.
get a 997.2 pdk
the macan is great, but not a sports car..the 911 is smaller but for 90% of your needs it will suit you just fine.. if you have 2 kids.. i would reccomend the macan.. back seats on 911 are present but not comfortable for long journeys.
