Some pro-ICEV, anti-BEV enthusiasts will always mention engine/exhaust-pipe noise as a big factor in their thinking. But most people in the world don't care (or even like) such noise, and most people don't like hearing other peoples' cars' noise. I myself find BEVs gratifyingly quiet, and prefer that. My main interest in driving Porsches is the driving dynamics, not the noise that they make, and Porsche is making their Taycans to have superb driving dynamics (their acceleration just blows away any four-door Porsche ICEV, their stability at high speeds is very welcome, and their steering and lower center-of-gravity for cornering makes them true Porsches).

As for the new, smaller gas-tank sizes, that would have probably pushed me away from Macan and into Cayenne E-Hybrid if the tank had been that small (17 gallons) when I bought my 2019 Macan. For me, it's important that I visit gas stations less frequently, not more (whether driving locally or on long road trips); I'm willing to make small time concessions to visiting public-charging stations on long road trips for something like the Taycan (or forthcoming Macan BEV) because they're so fun to drive and because I'll rarely ever have to visit a charging station away from my home garage for like 10 months of every year... All of my three four-door Porsches thus far have had gas tanks with 19.8 or more gallons (including my E-Hybrid).

The US online configurator says 17.1 gallons. Not sure what happened to the space of the other three gallons.

So we are back to where we were 4 months ago. No one knows what the tank capacity is.

According to page 146 on https://manual-directory.com/view-manual-pdf/ it is 19.8 gallons for all 2022 models.

I drove a 2022 yesterday which showed 440 miles of range with full tank after 10 min of idling.

The science is fluid on this.

Unfortunately, the answer is 17.1 gallons. The configurator has a conflict. Under Standard Equipment it specifies 19.8 gallons and under Technical Specifications it specifies 17.1 gallons. If the manual says 19.8 gallons, it is incorrect. My basis for this conclusion is as follows: ( 1) A representative from Porsche USA told me it is 17.1 gallons. (2) Go to a dealer site that has a 2022 incoming Macan. Check Details/ Power Train, and the tank is specified as 17.1 gallons.

The more interesting question is WHY?

Neither of those are definitive answers. The only way to know is to fill it up when empty. I doubt it is 17.1 gal otherwise the test drive car I had wouldnt show 440 miles of range.

Yes, the "WHY?" is what makes me wonder about 17.1. What has changed in the Macan that they'd need to remove 3 gallons from the gas tank? Did they add something else in to take up that space? I could see them doing this if they added in an E-Hybrid drivetrain... But they already had a compact spare wheel/tire under the rear floor with a 19.8-gallon tank (as in my 2019 Macan)...

Default We have a base macan

To throw something else into the mix. We had super empty tank (3 miles of range) and filled up at Costco with 17 gallons of gas....

For those of us that ordered the 22 GTS, this means more trips to the gas station. I honestly don't understand why they would do this. The configurator and my build sheet said 19.8. Do they think we wouldn't notice? Bizarre.

My theory as I mentioned earlier in the thread is that it's to decrease the published range of the ICE models so when the electric comes out the gap between them looks much less from a marketing perspective.

If it showed 3 miles of range, I'd have to believe you had at least a couple of gallons left. There's no way they're going to risk trying to calibrate that gauge accurately. It would lead to lawsuits.

See post 25. You would think the EPA certificate would be accurate. 2022 S/GTS -17.2 gal; 2021 S/GTS - 19.8 gal. Base - 17.2 gal.
