Default License plate/frame question

I have a 2021 GTS on order and note that the Macan comes with two holes for the rear US license plate or frame. As you can see from my avatar, my 981S had a brushed chrome frame with four holes, so installation was easy. The ones I bought had caps with them, but can be installed with our without them. I want to put a four hole plate frame on the Macan as I think it looks better. I've found the ones offered by AutoAttire are excellent https://www.autoattire.com/4-hole-bl...se-frames.html. They make a variety of finishes in both two and four hole designs. Is it as simple as drilling through the plastic covering the license plate area to install them? Are owners doing this, or just going with two hole frames? Yes, I'm that particular.

No drilling needed. I just used 4 screws for plates similar to these: https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/PKSCREWS.html. Just screw in with mild pressure and it goes through the plastic like butter. I initially had 2 screws just on top, but the bottom of the license plate was sticking out quite a bit without screwing the bottom of the plate.

Thanks. You didn't encounter resistance after you penetrated the thin plastic covering? I don't want to damage the bumper underneath the covering.

No resistance. The area for the plate is raised and has tiny indentations to let you know where the screws should go.

I have a 2021 and I had four holes in the back, and they even gave me 6 little screws in a bag to attach my plate with my frame.

When my dealer received my plates I drove in and they installed them for no charge. Pretty standard, no?

2021Macan, yes, it would appear to be standard for dealerships to install plates. However, I think that depends on the dealer and buyer preferences. Some buyers do not want dealers to touch their car at all after it leaves the lot. With my 2 recent purchases, the dealers FedEx me my plates, so I install them myself and save a trip to the dealership. Also, my Macan purchase was from an out of state dealership, so driving 1500 miles one way just for plates does not seem like a good proposition.

No kidding! I'm just 10 minutes away from my dealer!

My dealer asked me ahead of time if I want the front license plate bracket installed or not, and I just had them do it.I can’t remember the last time I had a car without a front license plate.

They also asked me if I wanted to use my own license plate bracket or use the one that came with the car.

I ordered and installed this plate bracket for my 2018 Macan GTS - turns 2 holes into 4 without going into the plastic of the bumper cover!

Check out my solution for mounting my 4-hole OEM plate frame to the Macan. This solution is clean and uses OEM components, so it’s like it came that way from Porsche...
