probably asked a lot but cannot find.....Im looking at either 2017 or 2018 macan gts. As a real newb I am confused why the the 17s don't have the sport+ but most 18s have it. Is the + setting in the 18s improved over the sport mode in the 17s? What would I be missing with a 17 sport mode only. I do drive ,live and travel out in the middle of nowhere on a lot of rough gravel and dirt roads and drift my bmw in most corners and drive it hard with no regard. Was hoping the macan would respond well to this unpaved reality.
The Sport+ button is part of the Sport Chrono package and it's available for both MY 2017 and 2018 - it's probably just chance that you observed it on 2018s but not 2017s. Unlike most Porsche GTS models, I don't think it was included standard on the Macan GTS and was only standard on the Macan Turbo with Performance Package. Fortunately, you can actually retrofit the button and update the software if you find a Macan you like that doesn't have the option in the build: https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/SKU95BSPORT.html
Sport+ has a more aggressive shift map - it keeps the RPMs way up high, improves throttle response, increases the rev limiter, and tweaks the suspension settings and would be tons of fun on gravel/dirt roads. Oh, you get launch control, too.
I have read all the posts provided- thanks again. Most of the reviews of sport + center on shift rpms, which is not important to me. Neither is having launch control. But any changes in suspension would be useful....as I enjoy cornering hard out here in the country. A lot of users say they can't tell the difference in suspension between sport and sport +.

The suspension modes (comfort/sport/sport plus) are there without the sport chrono option.

I believe that there is no suspension difference on the Macan with/without SC (SportChrono). On SC equipped 911s and Boxster/Caymans, there are dynamic engine mounts that get noticabley stiffer, reducing movement, improving handling at the limits.

If you have PASM then I think it is supposed to provide different suspension settings. Here's a marketing blurb about it from Porsche:The Sport Chrono Package adds a stopwatch with an analogue and a digital display to the cockpit. The performance display in PCM lets you view a range of driving stats, including your total driving time, current lap distance and lap times recorded so far.
The center console also comes equipped with the SPORT PLUS button, which is used to activate SPORT PLUS mode. In this mode, the engine becomes even more responsive and the rev limiter is adjusted to a harder setting. Porsche Traction Management (PTM) is now tuned for even sportier performance. For cars with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), SPORT PLUS mode results in harder damping and more direct steering. In addition, the trigger threshold for PSM is raised for increased longitudinal and lateral dynamics. The shift times of PDK, fitted as standard, become even shorter, the gear changes even sportier. The optional air suspension automatically drops to Low Level. Launch Control is primed to deliver optimum acceleration from a standing start.
Fitted as standard on the Macan Turbo with performance package and Macan Turbo Exclusive Performance Edition and Macan Sport Edition. Optional for all other Macan models.
Of course, I'm assuming the phrase "harder damping" means beyond what you get in Sport mode with the suspension on the stiffest settings. My Macan has three "stiffness" settings for the suspension and Sport+ enables the stiffest one by default - maybe that's all they mean.

You can tune the suspension separately whatever mode you are in. I think Sport+ is bit tighter, but certainly not remotely harsh - could be my imagination though (about the suspension tightness).
