Default Tool for displaying transmission temp

Is there a scan tool that plugs into the OBDII port that will display live transmission temperature? I'm using my Macan S to tow a travel trailer and would like to know how much extra the transmission is working.

Aren't all of the Macan models rated for towing capacities? (~4400 lbs)

How about monitoring the engine oil temperature? It's the engine that is being asked to pull extra weight.

I tow an enclosed car trailer with our F150 Super Crew. It has a Transmission Temp Gauge. The temp does vary dependent on load and ambient temp. The OP has a valid concern, especially with the myriad problems some have experienced with their Macan drivetrains.

PSEE, I’ve towed lots of trailers over the years in different vehicles and with an automatic transmission the trans temp is often the Achilles heel. In our Macan I can pull up on the instrument cluster the engine coolant temp and engine oil temp, but not trans temp, hence my query. I don’t know how accurate stories are about how the original tow rating was around 5500 lbs. but then got downgraded to 5200 and ultimately to 4500 due to transmissions eating themselves, but the explanations on this site and others make it sound like the reduction in tow rating was due to drivetrain failures, not actual weight limits.

There are several OBDII readers that pop up during a google search, however transmission temperature is not part of the standard protocol and is manufacturer specific. The information I’m looking for is which reader can display the info I’m looking for.

Checked my iCarsoft POR II - lots of live data available for the engine, but nothing for the trans.

You might be able to find a proper size drain plug sending unit and corresponding electrical gauge from AUTOMETER or VDO that would enable you to read tranny temp.

Thanks for checking whether the PORII can or cannot display transmission info.

Thanks for that recommendation, I thought of that option and it is something I've done in the past on other vehicles. I'd like to avoid cutting into the dash/center console to install a gauge, though it is starting to look like that might be my only option since I haven't found a reader yet that can display the Porsche specific protocols through the OBD-II port.

late to this thread but the icarsoft PORII and the icarsoft POR V3.0 both can read transmission oil temp. I have the V3.0. Driving 2021 Porsche Macan. You have to get quite a few sub-menus into the diagnostic menu but you’ll eventually select “tiptronic” and within that menu you can select various transmission data; including transmission temp.

The X431 "Pro" series of scan tool models can also read the PDK transmission fluid temperature.

Did the Scan-Gauge offer trans fluid temp as a readout option?
