I checked with Jake - unlike the old days when I got started in SRF, PCA *is* allowing yellow/white students to drove an SRF at PCA DEs now! Only caveat is that for *your* safety, you have to drove in the red run group. That's so that you don't get squashed by a 3,500 pound turbo driven by someone who's not used to looking out for a 3' high sports racer.

I rented an SRF from Dave Perkins, the local SRF dealer in Texas before I bought one. If you split the cost of a day (or two!) rental between a few friends, it'd be pretty affordable. They trailer it up there, and provide all-day trackside support.

My dad was into cars--he drove dirt track before I was born. I found out last summer that he wanted to buy me a go-kart and get me started racing when I was about 8. It didn't happen because mom said no, and I have still not forgiven her for that one. I am convinced I wouldn't be nearly so slow if I'd started earlier...

I guess I'm just going to have to live vicariously by mooching rides with the Waco Kid until something in my brain clicks...

better not--she's been trying to make it up to me by buying me track stuff at every turn. She got both me and Ryan Pilotti's for Christmas! If only I could get her to fund the tires...
