However, he did prove your guys are right. He always said he has awesome car control skills and can get out from any situation. Guess what, he got smack in the side by another driver, when he went spinning and stop at the middle of the track.

Hmm GR.. Which Car were you driving? I do remember a black Miata that was wrecked during Sunday qualfying and was turned around on the top of the little rise at turn 6. Was that you? Heck I even helped the owner push the mangled beast back in to his trailer. I don't remember seeing you around at that time though. May be it was different car.
Checking the Spec Miata results I see a Frank Lin with 70 point for Saturday's Race. That would be 6th Place. Not Bad.. Then again I also see a Shawn Sampson with a 6th place finish Saturday and I know it was a Sampson car that was damaged at turn 6. Please tell me you did not just rent it for Sunday? You know he is looking for a new car now?

I have talked to some of my DTR buddies on the left coast, who like me, also like to dabble on the hard ground every once in a while. Here's what I heard about our hero.
Seems like ol Frankee was trying to emulate his hero (Dirt Track Racer) but didn't have the car control skills he so often brags about. Lost it by going dirt trackin (brings a tear to my eye)on the outside in T5, totally lost it when he forgot to let off the throttle and gather the car (isn't that rule number one in DEs?) and then really screwed the pooch and the racers when he forgot the "both feet in" part as he went spinning across the track. Seems like that is also a basic of the DE instruction rules.
Famous SM racer Shawn (last name hidden to protect the innocent) had to try to dodge Frankee and almost pulled it off until Frankee finally remembered the "both feet in" part and hit the brakes. Sent the car in a new direction - the direction that Shawn had picked and it was crash time. Typical rookie mistakes but I doubt that Frankee would ever admit the mistakes were his.
I wonder if this will force our hero back to work to pay for the damages? I heard Shawn's car is a writeoff, and haven't heard about the car Frankee was driving, but it was hit pretty hard.
I wonder if he spun in some oil or coolant? I thought it was easy to control a car in those conditions? Oh well.

DTR..
I was on the track in my 944-spec car when that happend. Track conditions were fine (at least I did not have any problems). It was qualfying too so no need to do anything stupid. One you lose it forget about it cause the lap is trashed anyway.
I never saw the incident only the aftermath. Yes Shawn's car is write off and he will probably miss the Spec Miata race at Laguna Seca during the CART Event. Too bad. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

So let me get this straight? We have it confirmed that Ghetto finally decided to go racing, and in doing so, trashed not only the car he was renting but also the car of another SM driver? Or are you guys just making this stuff up? Yikes.

A friend met (a la inadvertent contact) a guy who did his "first" race at the ARRC last year after doing the Panoz school (shortly before??) - I thought the comment was that he was on his Novice. I probably lost something in the translation. I knew a guy that did the Skip Barber school and I thought it just exempted him from the Comp School requirement. Again, might have been lost in the translation.
I take your word on it however - as I said, might have been the wording.

Seems like GR had all the skills he needed according to his website, he was able to control for every situation. It couldn't have been his fault.

Went off at turn 5 at Willow? I can understand 9 (I had a nice off there - damn glare), maybe hitting 3 way too hard, but 5 is a little skivvy at the bottom of the hill... if you ever walk the 2.xx mile track, you'll also see a smidge of banking.... someone wasn't on the binders there or what?

You never once asked to drive my car? What's up with that? Not that I would have let you anyway (letting Bitterman drive was enough), but thanks for getting my lunch.

Yep, Shawns car is a write off. I went to his shop today to pick up a radio system. This was my first time meeting shawn and as we were talking I asked him if he raced the Spec Miata that was in a picture that was hanging on the wall. He says "I did before It got totaled at Willow springs last weekend." I say, "Are you the guy that was involved with Frank" He says "yep,I've been getting calls about him all week"
Shawn tells me that besides the obvious mistake that lead to the crash, Frank comes up to him later and says somthing about it was just destiny that they were both there at the same time and basically oh well.
Shawns a nice guy, hope he gets something put together for Laguna Seca.

I also spoke to him and hope he gets a car for Laguna. It would be a big deal for him to miss that as it is a major part of his marketing for his business.
What Shawn described to me was a typical series of rookie mistakes - probably 4 of them, that lead to the crash. He was pretty cool about it, except for the part where Frank would not take the smallest amount of responsibility for it. Frank told him "It was fate". Frank has promised his story in a mail list he is on and we are all waiting anxiously for the tale. I sure it will be as creative as the Viper story and others. Perhaps we will even witness another round of Haiku.
