Drank the GT4 koolaid !
Just wanted to pop in and say hey all ! New proud and super stoked owner of a medium spec GT Silver here !
So I've been slowly watching the market for either a GT4 or 997.2 GT3 since early Summer trying to decide between the two and like most ...spending waaay too much time on the process as both are phenomenal.
Its been almost 2 yrs since I sold my C4S so I was getting uncomfortable with the reality of being Porsche-less , and its not like I don't have other fun cars to keep me occupied but I needed to hunker down and just make a decision as to avoid driving myself batsh!t crazy. Oh and one other important criteria is that the car is going to be a legacy car, meaning I would like to hang on to it as long as possible as I've let too many Porsche's I've owned in the past go that are now unobtanium.
I'm in my mid 50's so there was a time when I had a 914-6, 911S , 924 Turbo, 993 C2 , and a few E28/E34 M5's all super hot in the market and are fetching prices 4x what I sold them for back in the day.
In the end , the clear choice, at least for me, was the GT4. You all know why....only 1 year in North America, behavioral issues like scalpel cut turn in , sub3000 lb's , beyond stunning architecture and ....it will never happen again ! Sad, but true. I got this super low mileage example from someone I consider the ideal previous owner. Bought it sight unseen and he was a pleasure to deal with.
I look forward to being part of the fraternity, mafia...coalition...union, etc.
Cheers !

PS- I'm 45 mins from LRP which is my home track. Hope to meet some of you this coming season.

Welcome and congrats! Beautiful car! LRP is also my home track. I go to most of the spectator events and try to drive the track myself at least a couple times a year. I'll look for you!
Do you want to tell us about that M4?

Congrats! I also had e28 and e34 m5's and was debating a 997 GT3 too when the GT4 came along and changed everything! Hope to see you at lrp on a loud day

Thanks all !
The M4 is a 2016 Austin Yellow , MDCT, non-Comp, Executive Pack which gives you HUD ,Harman Kardon and I added a M4 GTS wing out back . It was stock for a while until a few months ago when I decided to move ahead with a Bootmod3 Stage 2 93 octane tune. It has VRSF mid pipes and VRSF charge pipes and DP's that put it to about 575+ HP/ 530 tq . It's savage. Too much really as in full Sport Plus with Traction completely off it spins in the middle of 3rd. I got a set of 305 Cup2's for the rear that still need to be installed.
I'm hoping this will keep it more planted and tame the violent snap oversteer, which truth be told , once you get used to it is a riot. I don't do 1/4 mile racing , but my BMW tuner has my exact specs and he run's consistent 11.25's / 128-ish on the stock 275 PSS's . It's a hi 10's car if you get meatier in the back. The stock Launch Control works great and auto shifts only 1st to 2nd.
The car just blows me away. Its an event every time I drive it, does everything quite well and with the GTS wing and added DF, it rotates under load superbly.

Great looking car. Having owned a 997.2 GT3 I can say I prefer my GT4.

The E28 was before cell phones and digital cameras so I don't have too many pics of it other than old Polaroids which is in a box I really need to track down. It has snapshots of all my past cars.
One of my favorite pairs ever. 2008 Audi RS4 and my 04 C4S which was on the cover of Victor Wheels website for a bit. That C4S was absolutely mint and is now in the Newport Car Museum in RI.

Thank you ! Just to fortify my own decision....what are your top 3 preferences of GT3 vs GT4 ? Obviously both are epic icons, both are reviewed in print and video ,ad infinitum ...to this day, you're in a rare situation where you've owned both. Would love to hear what you have to say.
For me it was visual .
The GT4 is a perfect 10 in the looks Dept.
The section where the rear teardrop merges with the cooling ducts is pure poetry , almost redefining " Form follows Function"...like give Da Vinci a boner good . Secondly, and its splitting hairs , I don't think there is enough of a performance difference between the 2 to warrant paying more for the lower mileage 997.2 GT3's I was looking at . Yes, the GT3 will rev to 8400 but so did my Audi RS4 and E90 M3...been there done that , and while its uber cool , its something I only would do during an HPDE day.

Speed - Not debatable simply by doing math
Size - Again debatable the 911 could be deemed a little too large by some.
Steering - Too many personality variables and geometry variables to nail down. Again debatable.
Balance - We could argue a long time about that one.
Brakes - Agree unless one vehicle weighs more than the other or has a different tire on it.

sound - not as loud (not debatable or subjective)
size - also not subjective, they're parked next to each other in my garage - I thought the Cayman was a smaller car (my bad assuming)
steering - I have no idea what you're saying.... however, my GT3 is like a scalpel, the 4 is not as precise
balance? how do you argue this? it's like math and stuff (when does a mid-engine car not win this???)
brakes are the same - sure weight/tires may come into play but I'm comparing my cars, while the GT4 is lighter the brakes are NOT better with this in mind

Until both cars are given the same specs, setup exactly the same way and driven in anger by the same driver under the same conditions all of this is debatable. Lap times don't lie. When it comes to driving around at law abiding citizen speeds none of that **** really matters or even comes into play.
