718 GT4?

In that case, it's between the 4 cyl and the flat 6 NA engine. I am really thinking and hoping Porsche would not go down 2 levels engine wise on the next GT4.

With reworked internals as well as software changes.

if they detune the engine enough, which presumably they need to to hit both a certain power spec AND a certain price point for the GT4, then it is no longer a "GT3" engine, at that point it is all just marketing.

Keep in mind that the GT3 makes 500 hp at only 8,250 rpm. So, just lowering the redline to 8k is unlikely to do much to the power. To get to 420hp from engine speed reduction alone would require ~7k redline. My fear is that they'll also do something very unfortunate like prevent the throttle from opening all the way at high revs or something else similar (like the previously mentioned choked intake size)

i don’t understand. If you get a car with a naturally engine making 420 hp and it’s based on the race bred GT3 engine, what do you care how they got there?

I guess my concern would be the resulting character of the power delivery. Didn't mean to be overly dramatic One of my favorite things about the GT3's character is the rush to 8,500 rpm (honestly, it flattens out there a bit on the way to 9k). I just hope the engine in this car still has a nice high-rev flourish - and I hope they don't lower the redline too much which necessitates tall gearing.

And it’s certainly possible that I’d own a GT4 again.

I wouldn’t! If I could afford it, and could find an allocation... I would be in a GT3 with no hestitation. I love my GT4, but GT3 is on another level.

P.S.
