So I’m wondering how much of that 10 seconds is due to tire. I noticed Tire Rack posted a new size of MPSC2 N1 compound of 295/30/20. The 245/35/20 already existed so I’m wondering if they jumped from the N0 compound on the 981 to the N1 on the 718 for an easy performance gain. I know for a fact the 295 N1 didn’t exist on Tire Rack a couple months ago when I was researching 20” track tire options.

Yes, a good part of that is due to tire improvement. And another chunk is due to improvements to the track (several seconds faster from 2015).

My guess is the actual lap will be well under 7:30...

So in all, it is a .2.

Anybody with a 981 GT4 will most likely hold onto them unless they want something new with warranty.
Great time to consider modifying a 981 GT4 to get it up to speed.

The 718 GT4 will be perfect for those who missed the boat on the 981 GT4.

It will be interesting to see how the start/stop function works out along with the particle filters and new exhaust. New (ish) motor is interesting. Jury will be out on all these things.

Give me a new Spyder in Black please. Perhaps Clubsport SRO carbon hood, front/rear bumpers and front fenders too. Re gear anybody?

This sounds just about perfect to me. But I'll have mine in white

Also Manthey was able to hit a 7:30 in a 981 without power adders...just some suspension tweaks being the most appreciable change.

They missed a big opportunity to improve a lot of areas. Looks like they screwed up more than they improved. Cylinder deactivation? No torque increase? Same long gearing? Heavier? Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Very glad I jumped in a 991.2 and did not wait for this car.

If Porsche thought it was they would have put it in the new clubsport?

By my read the cs engine wouldn't hit emissions targets so the "new" engine with cylinder deactivation, auto stop/start, new ignition, and gpfs was created for the street car. With torque and hp similar to the new new cs with a 3.8, the extra .2l of the street engine is probably for marketing and to compensate for the gpfs.....

Agreed! The Governor is in the house!

I know some people are holding out for PDK. When/If it comes, will be very interesting to see if it comes with a 345 ft-lbs torque peak. Particularly if the Manual does not fly off the shelves

Porsche told us that they didnt have the time to develop it for the race car for the 2019 season. Therefore the race car got the ol' reliable 3.8L. All the race teams are very familure with it therefore it made sense.
Would be interested to compare both motors on the dyno however.

It will be interesting to see how much a 4.0L GTS impacts (cannibalizes) GT4 sales, especially if it is offered with a PDK, and sells for a discount from MSRP.

Really modest upgrade in the suspension, etc for which Porsche is charging another 14K compared to the original GT4. Unless they really want to do ED, I just don't see why people would care that much about the new GT4/Spyder compared to the 981 versions.
I completely agree with this. To bump displacement and stay with the same torque figure is a disappointment (transmission limited or not). This car will have real trouble staying with a tuned Cayman GTS.....

I loved the 981 version and if I still owned mine I would not feel the need to upgrade at all.

It's still a great car but not quite the compelling item that the original was when it came out in '15

And checking the Vehicle Marketplace after the 718 GT4 reveal turns up this new 981 GT4 listing from Porsche Atlanta Perimeter:

https://rennlist.com/forums/vehicle-...0-gt4-cpo.html

The ask is about $4k over MSRP for a lightly/medium optioned Carrara White car. It's only one data point but I'm wondering if the dealer waited for the new car reveal before posting.

Did they say if they are going to test, develop, and swap in the new motors for 2020?

Maybe, but I'm going with just general greed
