the only reason to put a 4.0 in is if they can use the same engine from gt3 and detune it dramatically.. so they would need to keep building only one NA engine..

their might be a question of fitting as the current one is already super tight

Yeah...sorry...unfortunately just a stupid joke on my part.
Porsche has moved on to direct injection and the Mezger wouldn't probably pass emissions. Wonderful engine nonetheless...I don't care what people say about coolant lines, cam bolts backing out etc...the internals of those engines were solid.

Surely in the minority here but I'd love a GT4 w/ PDK-S and no dip in torque.

Just to let you know, in Europe, you can get a Lotus Exige V6 Cup, and then stop by Komotec in Germany (quite great because he is close to Spa, ..and very close to the Ring).
The common result is 458hp on dyno.
I have a track oriented Boxster S here, (in California) and in Europe, (it is not my car, but) I'm a lucky driver of one of these Komotec tuned V6 Cup and can tell you that it is just a fabulous car.
More than 450hp when the engine is at the right place, is just another view of motorsport.
I had many 911 non stop for 30 years, and this is definitively NOT the same game.
My vision is quite simple:
If Porsche want to stay in this business with the right image of making viril sport cars, they have to either put the right engine in the Cayman, or use the architecture of the new RSR for the next GT3.

And btw, IMO the new "718" has nothing to do under this brand name. This should should be given to VW, ..together with the Macan 4. (..like the 914 was, or, to me, 914 would have been a much more appropriate model designation, ..than 718)
..my 2cents, being a very old Porsche customer.

With all the wants in this thread the price would balloon to well over $140K.. Who is honestly going to pay that?
Knowing that the Cayman will likely never eclilpse the 911 platform..

Seems more likely that they would bastardize the 911 to mid engine instead of raising the cayman beyond the 911.

My $0.02

This thread reminds me of the original GT4 thread with all the misinformation (provided by various cleaning personnel), the pricing exclusivity wanted/expected by some, and the general wishful thinking. Only to be followed by threads of elation as well as disappointment.

Welcome all to round 2.

Precisely.

3.8? Maybe.
4.0? Maybe.
Manual only? Maybe.
Big price jump? Maybe.
911 pricing? Unlikely.
Standalone RWS on a Cayman? Unlikely.
None of the above? Possible.

Better to enjoy the GT4 as we know it, and look forward to what the cooks have come up with next when they're ready to present it.

I have noticed a lot of people buy these cars as garage trophies unfortunately, so when that is the case, the thrill of the next car and having the latest/greatest sometimes overwhelms you know, actual driving.

Hammer, meet head.

6,000 miles of pure fun and counting. Actually, it's probably a few hundred more than that, because I don't look at those digits all that often. I prefer to look up at the road ahead, and the more interesting it is, the better.

Staring at my garage wall never did much for me.

There is a niche which the future GT4 can fill. Keep it simple. I wonder if manual steering would be too heavy or even possible. Imagine light weight, manual tranny, manual steering, manually adjustable dampers, clubsport package for the US. GT4 RS can get the PDK, 4 wheel steering, electronic steering rack, etc.
