IIRC the 981.1 GT4 wasn't offered with the PDK since its NBR time would've encroached too much on the 991.1/GT3. Porsche likes to maintain a hierarchy as we all know. A detuned GT3 3.8 would be too costly IMHO, but I can see an increase in power for the next version. Whether it'll be an X51 derivative or something else only those in the know know.

That's my point. It'll be a 718, not a 981. Regardless of the powertrain, I can't imagine they'd keep making the GT4 in the old body style. My guess is that the next GT4 will be a turbo 4 in a 718 body, but that it will be improved in every way throughout the car, just like they did with the 991.2. Also, I think it'll have a more aggressive look, partly due to the more muscular look of the rear of the 718 vs. the 981 and also because I think they'll do a front end similar to what's been shown for the next GT3. I think Porsche knows that to convince people to jump to the turbo, they have to make a more desirable car in every respect. And I expect that they will.
Take the 718 Cayman, bump it to 400hp, improve steering and suspension, give it the new GT3 front bumper and a PDK, keep base pricing within $10k of the 981 GT4, and tell me where to sign.

I don't think Porsche would introduce the 981 GT4 and Clubsport only to change it 2-3 years down the line for F/I. They already knew that the 718 was coming with turbos. Don't think a lot of folks here would love the idea of a turbo GT4...

I think if the turbo 4 GT4 stomps the NA GT4 performance wise, and offers a better package wrapped around it, people won't be to concerned about the turbos. Porsche's pretty smart with these things and I think, if they go turbo, they'll make the overall package more compelling in order to overcome the turbo fear issue.

For the last time: 718 is the public-facing model designation -- it says so right there on the rear bumper of the car -- 981.2, 982, or whatever the hell it's called is the internal Porsche chassis designation.
They are not mutually exclusive things.

ie the 'Cayman' in the name 718 Cayman will be as the 'Carrera' is in a 911 Carrera
