Could this happened to every GT4 or has the latest build GT4 some upgraded gearbox? My GT4 i built in August 2016, maybe they have upgraded the gearbox?

It's possible. Not even sure how one would determine, absent removing the tranny.

Unfortunately, the August 2016 builds did not necessarily have an upgraded version of the gearbox. My GT4 was built in August of 2016 and it had the problem.

I have probably one of the very latest GT4 build in mid August and I am on the second gear box. Just drive it hard and one day you get an upgraded one...

My build was in the second half of August 2016 and it still failed. My guess is that every single one has a potential issue

May not be able to get a GT3 allocation but I'll bet PAG would sell each and everyone of us a new transmission.

There were two more failures on GT4s at Mosport this last weekend. The owner who told me said hers was a 2016. On the bright side, my new transmission (2016 Cayman S) held up fine in my first event after the replacement.

Got my GT4 back today with a new tranny and I have a different part number on my invoice 981-300-020-DX not 981-300-020-23. Anyone knows the difference?

-------
Checked with Porsche, DX at the end means re-manufactured

So mine finally lost third accelerating out of the laces at Watkins Glen. One interesting note - this was the first day driving on RE71R's. In speaking to my mechanic, he mentioned the 3 transmissions he's had to replace have all been on stickier tires than the Cup 2's. His theory is that the increased load from stickier tires causes the failures. Just food for thought.

Date of manufacture - 4/16

Total miles - 6735

Number of track days - 12

Estimated track miles - 2,200

The failed gear - 3rd

Brief recount of the failure - Accelerating out of heavy camber turn at Watkins Glen.

Tires - Bridgestone RE71R

Other relevant info - No modifications
