Default 3rd gear

I have 5200 miles with build date of 01/16. No issues so far. Should I be concerned and contact dealer? Assuming they wont take any actions unless I start having issues or lose the 3rd gear....

Yes, you should be concerned. You are in the "at-risk" build range. See DrJay from 2 days ago. No, a dealer won't do anything for you. You have to break it before they will fix it. I've talked to dealers in 2 states now that respond "never heard of it"

Now they are starting to break in non-track situations. See the recent experience of pginbtv and DrJay.

PM sent.
I have her details and will add to database. Her son was driving it on the street when it failed. Awaiting new transmission and using Viper this week instead. She probably only has a few track days on the GT4 and is in 2nd year of DE recently promoted to intermediate.

FWIW - when you say "again" - she has only had one failure. She is the second owner of the car and I believe this is the first failure in the car (prior owner had zero issues).

right Carol that is Michelle’s car.... didn’t mean to imply it was her second tranny loss—just that another one happened at WGI—seems to be quite a few at that track!

I didnt realize it happened on the street, just assumed since she frequents the Glen that it was there
see you Sunday

I've now been informed that the replacement gearbox has arrived at the dealership and they are in the process of fitting it. As I am out of the country until next week I dont know exactly what has been delivered but the service lead was intimating that the reason for the delay was that they were awaiting new build gearboxes with a "fix"
I have been unable to assertain what this means but will be finding out when I get back to the UK and pick the car up.

Default PORSCHE WARRANTY GT4 TRANSMISSION FAILURE

Porsche have made good on the warranty. Having an aftermarket differential complicated matters but an amicable solution was reached with PCNA.

Whoa. That is concerning, sorry to hear that. Did you tell them you had a lsd and they denied the warranty repair or did they notice as they were pulling the tranny? Which dealer was this?

May/June 16 build, and 5,000km's

apparently a 6-8 week wait on a replacement box

Have you given them a letter from your lawyer yet?

The warranty act is very clear. Porsche must prove that the LSD caused the failure. Currently all gears work with the exception of 3rd and the differential is fully functional. There is also a history of successive failures.

I would prefer PCNA to do the right thing which I think/hope they will do.

I'm a bit late to the party but what is the "at-risk" build range ?

I don't follow. Why would there legal team be involved if you haven't threatened them? I would submit a letter citing the act and your intent to fight the denial.

This also reiterates what I said either earlier in this thread or the other one. Keep your stock diff, bearings installed. In the event of failure trade diffs before the dealer touches the car. You don't want your lsd going back to Germany in their core. This turn of events is another reason to do this.
