Got a call today that my 2nd replacement will be ready tomorrow. Car went to dealer on 7/5 so we are talking less than a week turnaround. Seems like Porsche is now expecting these. I do have an excellent relationship with my long time service adviser so that helps. My car is heavily modified, but not a single question, just a replacement transmission even though this is the second time.

The troubling thing to me is he compared the trans that was replaced 7 months ago to the one going in today and the parts numbers are the same ending in B then X. X denotes a re manufactured part. If there is a "new" trans ending in a C, I didn't get one.

Interesting that you've had your gearbox replaced within a week of dropping it of. Mine has been with the dealer since June 26th and no sign of a gearbox coming from Germany yet. I wonder if they are all going to the US given that's where most of the failures are occuring.

Not in my experience - This is the 5th week i have been without my GT4 waiting for a new transmission - the end is now in sight but its been the most frustrating and poorly managed customer experience i have ever encountered. I hope your experience turns out better.....

Well I'm three weeks in and so far nothing from Germany I'm heading to the US for 2 months at the end of July so unless it appears in the next couple of weeks it'll be stuck in the dealership until October.

I suspect supply has more to do with dealership hierarchy more than anything else. A small low volume dealer won't get the same service that their big volume guys get.

So after nearly 5 weeks i got my car back today. The replacement transmission has a new part number from the one that failed - Dealer tech assumes something was changed but no word from Porsche on any changes. Part number for new trans - 981 300 020 23 - old trans had same number except for last digit which was a 2.

No change in feel - shifts are direct and crisp as before the failure

Does anyone know about how many cars have now been affected? The info would help when I go into the dealer tomorrow and the spreadsheet on the first post is now seriously out of date.

Would be very good to know and have an up to date data base. Seems like its another one or two fail every weekend.
Wonder whats the end game for porsche?
Recall?
Extended warranty?
Identify a production run vins?
Or just keep fixing them as they fail?

Stop replacing under warrenty claim user abuse (this would set them up for a class action law suit as it's clearly a design/and or manufacturing defect ) . Seeing they position the car as a dual use car and are concern about the enthusiast market hope they do the right and ethical thing.

My experience with them in the past has been very good. They actually gave me a new set of rear tires on a 996 GT3 that came with the rear toe screwed up and ate the tires in 2500 miles of street driving.

Bet it's 40-50 failures to date and they really dont have much of a defense seeing all of the failures are the same and some are on their third trans.

Sorry I won't be able to update the spreadsheet until next week (no time with travels) but I will be combing through all the posts and will share the latest total number once I have a chance to collect the data.

I sort of combed through the posts myself now that I am a member of the club. I counted 42 cars, with Rennlist names for 32 of them. The reported build dates, when known, are all from 3/16 to 7/16 with the exception of Orthojoe (12/15).

Update on mine is now day 11 and counting from the incident. I'm told that there is no new transmission and that I will be waiting another week for the next news and that there is no assurance then either.

Mike
