Customer - "Hey, my car no longer has a 3rd gear, can you fix it?"

Dealer - "Sure, bring it in, we'll take a look"

Customer - "Will do. Bit unusual, though, losing a 3rd gear. Not really ideal on a <insert country of purchase MRSP here> car?"

Dealer - "Yes, well, might have to ask head office about that. Meanwhile we have replaced the transmission on your car, its as good as new!"

Customer - "Ok great. Uhmm, is this transmission built the same way as the last one? Isn't it just going to happen again? I dont really want to keep coming back and replacing transmissions. Not my cup of tea."

Dealer - "Its all fixed, ya'll come back now y'hear"

Customer - "But I dont want to come back, thats the point"

Dealer - "Bye!"

Customer - Sadly hops into car and drives off.

Is this really how it plays out?
Welcome to the world of Porsche. This is the company that denied the M96/M97 IMS issue and was sued over it and lost. After many new P-cars I am finally at my limit. The GT4 is the last one. I took my name off of the GT3 list and am heading to Benz for wife's new SUV in a few months. It is inexplicable to me how a company can treat its customers this way. Rant over...

Are you on PFF, as this apparently happened on Nordschleife. I believe you are the 5th on that weekend....

Fix it as soon as it happens, talk about a reinforced 3rd gear. Suspicion about a bad batch of 3rd gears for late production cars sounds reasonable. Doubt they will proactively recall cars, but hope they are generous for cars out of warranty.

This.

Sure, a recall or more specific information would be nice. But an updated part, warranty honored for a track car, and if they are generous with out of warranty cars later on, that would be enough.

does the production date theory still hold water? Cars before a certain date are fine, those after the certain date have gear box failure?

The PDK in the clubsports has been holding up extremely well FWIW.

My build date is July 2016, updated the original post.
I'm not on PFF. This happened some three weeks ago.
