Suntek PPF Regrets
The GT4 is the is the 5th car I've protected with PPF and the first car I've tried Suntek on. I knew it's supposed to be thinner than Xpel, but I didn't expect it to make such a big difference in durability.
After 3.5K miles I already have three visible cuts in the film, one with minor paint damage underneath. I never had this amount of damage on my other cars with tens of thousands of miles, including another low and fast Porsche. I'm even debating swapping out the film on the front bumper and hood to prevent further damage.
Are others experiencing the same?

I'm glad you posted this as I'm getting ready to redo my PPF soon and suntek was on my list to consider.

Bull****, i have an assload of track days with suntek... and it actually looks reasonably good. They ALL get beat up.
Suntek looks much better installed than xpel.
No product will protect 100% from the **** that gets kicked up on track.

Toyota is the car market leader.
I need to get 2 cars wrapped, RS is due to be redone and Cayman, well make that 3 I need to put some on the 964 too after getting a few paint things addressed.
Actually haven't decided what to use this time, most likely suntek as i've talked to 3 installers about the current films, and they ALL said the same things: suntek quality is more consistent, goes on much clearer, and when asked about durability they said its a wash. Xpel is a minuscule amount thicker with the standard product. Xpel offers a thicker product too.

I have no issues with Suntek on my 991S DD. There's a small nick where the film got hit by debris, but as far as I can tell, the film protected the paint underneath. My GT4 has too few miles on it to tell on durability.

Since we're on the subject matter of protection - suntek is to protective film as the pull out method is to contraception (interpret it as you may)

I've never had film before suntek but 5 soon to be six track days with pebble showers from track and highway five everything is holding up fine. 4500mi.

Has anyone had the thicker xpell installed? I'm curious if it looks better or worse than the standard xpell

I've had both.
Xpel is a tad thicker but doesn't look as good on the car. Suntek is clearer. Both get beat up. Xpel markets their product better so people think it's better. Installer is more important than product.

Some installers would rather go with Suntek over XPEL... because 3M lawsuit

Bingo...I have Suntek on my GT4 and 997RS and Expel Ultimate on my 991RS. They all look good. I've been told that Suntek looks better on lighter cars and Xpel on dark cars but who knows.
