Default OT: Maria's back!

For those of you on watch for all things Maria-related (and I know there are oh so many of you out there!) this just in from Porsche:

Maria's ban from tennis will end in April when she plays in the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart. As a spokesperson for Porsche, we haven't heard much from Maria while the ban has been in effect, but Porsche seems anxious to trumpet not only her return to women's tennis, but to the Porsche brand, and what better place to do so than a Porsche-sponsored tournament she has won repeatedly.

Just wondering if this news will also spark the return of Mile High's old avatar

^^^^ If by "total number production run" you mean total worldwide production, JBoxsterK previously indicated in post #699 of this thread, copied below, that 2,486 is the "only officially confirmed number of all produced 981 Spyders."

I tried to follow on for me with s2ktaxi's database and scan sometimes the Porsche Build Sheets and Carfax. My latest list shows 841 "confirmed" VINs for North America (last one ...2910).
I don't know where he found this "officially confirmed number" and I've never seen this number myself published anywhere, but there is no reason to doubt its accuracy as JBoxsterK was very helpful in contributing to this great database and I'm sure his source is reliable.

At one point, the number thrown around for US imports was 800 or so. However, at that time they were also saying the GT4 would be around 2000. As Porsche realized what a success they had on their hand, GT4 numbers for NA/USA increased substantially - any idea as to whether or not the Spyder did too?

^^^^^^ I've always understood this Spyder database to be for North American cars, not just US production, and currently it shows approx. 830 Spyders. I suspect there are a few cars that for whatever reason aren't captured in the database, but the 830 figure should be close. I don't know how to find out from Porsche exactly how many cars were made for North America, but I hope we do at some point so we have a definite figure. Not a big deal. Would just be nice to know.

I don't know of any spike in Spyder production like you say there was for the GT4, and I'd be surprised if there was for the simple reason the Spyder wasn't a runaway hit like the GT4 was. Spyder demand was far less than that for the GT4.

The GT4 database in the GT4 forum is up to 2,350 cars or so if I'm reading it right. Can't recall, but I believe the figures are based on North American production as well. If so, there were roughly 2.8 GT4s made for every Spyder based on current database figures. With almost 3x more GT4s on the streets, the Spyder is a rare bird indeed.

Australia seems a bit different to the US, we got only 25 Spyders but about 200 GT4, that’s a much higher ratio at 8:1
