Depends on the track - stock gearing will be great for very fast track(s) and too tall for slower and more technical ones.

I haven't really noticed the gearing on the street. I mostly run around in second and third, occasionally 4th on faster streets. On the track it would be nicer to be able to use more gears but hey gearing is never perfect for the whole track anyway. The rev matching blip is hilariously loud going into first gear at a stop light.

It's my favorite "feature" of the tall gearing! I've never used first (aside from starting from a complete stop) in any of my manual cars in the last ~16 years as much as I do in the GT4!

Take up a collection for a group buy. Come up with a $25,000 deposit and I'll start development of 10 mainshafts. It will be 6-9 months from there with an additional $2000/unit due prior to delivery. As an official RL vendor, BGB can handle the sales and hold your money for you.

Doable! What would be the cost for the complete regearing, including this main shaft?l

The gears run $1050 per set. So, $4200 plus a $4500 mainshaft kit (with 1&2) and you are looking at $8700.

I am serious, but BGB doesn't want the hassle of managing the group buy. You guys get the deposit for 10 units together as a lump sum and then BGB will hold the deposit and collect the balance due once the parts are ready. They can also build the gearboxes for you guys.

ps. Don't forget another $2800 for a working LSD at the same time. It's really going to be around a $12,000 job when you factor in synchros and labor.

R&p especially when having to make all the parts just seems like it's going to be much easier and cheaper at this point... especially looking at a 12k+ bill per person.

With people all around the country, what is the best way to do this? Buy another new or used gearbox for BGB to build with your parts and swap it for the OEM box ( which each buyer could either sell or keep to return the car to stock)? I assume the gearbox swap would be feasible for most any Porsche shop, but is that right?

Compared. To the BGB throttle body, ECU, exhaust and other kit is this modification an "also ran" in comparison?

This is a big group buy and therefore I don't mind helping. We have a place on the east coast and west coast to do the work. Boxes can be shipped to us in Florida or to our west coast gearbox builder Larry at NS3 Fabrication in Arizona. We can handle it!

"If Matt builds it, they will come!"

The development machine will finally be here next week. I already have the short ratio gearbox for testing. We will await Matt's parts for testing and people need to contact Miguel in the shop about the buy in the meantime. Nothing will go to market without race track abuse.

Would starting with a base/non-s 6 speed transmission/main shaft plus new 3-6 gears be a close but more budget friendly option?

Sounds like the squeaky gear could get the grease! There is a site that manages group buys that I have used as a customer recently. Might be something to look at. http://www.groupbuyparts.com

With other users getting allocations lately, we may have even more interest in a gearing solution.

A buddy of mine drove a GT4 this week pretty hard and completely agreed with me about the gearing unprompted. I think this will be the most effective driving enjoyment mod on these cars.

I just found this in an article. This would imply the parts could be compatible for a 1-2 main shaft swap in the 991 911. Wonder if a similar swap would be possible between Cayman PDK and manual transmissions?

EDIT: Well...so much for that. The 981 PDK ratios are even worse than the manual...

The best part of awesome mods like this is the feeling of having a new car while spending only a mere fraction of the money of a new car

Read the history. There's nothing cheaper or easier about manufacturing a ring and pinion.
