I am promoting bolt-on mods because we have had gear sets available for the 981 for almost 2 years now, yet we haven't sold one to a single GT4 customer worldwide.

Hi John.....and most bolt-ons are easy to install. Some of them you may even get away with the service department not giving you a hard time with the warranty or can be taken off easily. As much as I would love to have a shorter ratio gearbox I'm not willing to compromise the OEM warranty which is 100% sure gone and can be tied to other mechanical problems not on the transmission once you open it for gears, etc .

Except for the really hard core people out there I don't see this upgrade happening for the vast majority of GT4 owners. Just my 2 cents on this.

I agree with you 100% and I realized 2 years ago to stop trying to sell to folks with warranty concerns because if anything ever happens, they have no support. BUT...and this is a big BUT...every day I read someone's request for gears and we all need to be honest with ourselves about warranty concerns. Everyone says they want gears but how many would actually proceed with them knowing the implications?

....and you will continue to get requests. They car is still very new and people are trying to learn the pro's and con's of everything, some without even knowing the implications of the modification they are requesting. Maybe in 3-4 years we will start to see warranties go away and those with the bolt-ons will be the first to upgrade gears...maybe. But in the mean time it's good to know you guys are ready to provide a proven product....

I have no problem waiting for 2500 + cars worldwide to run out of warranty! In fact, I see that period as when we will start selling gears. I am just trying to flush the elephant out into the middle of the room, and then throw peanuts at it!

I make parts for racecars. DE guys sometimes buy them but they aren't usually my customers. The GT3 has been an exception, but almost every single guy I deal with who regears is doing it because they either need to do the clutch or they actually blew up the gearbox.

I'm selling these gears to guys who own old Napleton Interseries race cars and some pro teams who are going away from series where ratios are restricted. I don't ever expect to sell more than about a dozen kits a year even though you are about to see a really cool ad for them in Excellence.

These guys are the ones posting the info in Germany: http://www.ehresmann-automotive.com/
If you click on the Facebook link it will direct you to more info and dyno charts.

This shop works closely with John from BGB so he may have a bit more info on this. This coupled with a GT Gears Limited Slip could be a killer combo.....if you are OK with no warranty of most of the drivetrain of course.

I hate when companies use FB as their site.
My GT4 may be wintering in FL with BGB then.
Here's what the change would be, thanks to P9/electronspeeder;
Stock Final Drive Gearing:
1st - 48mph
2nd - 82mph
3rd - 113mph
4th - 141mph
5th - 168mph
6th - 197mph
With 4.5 Final Drive:
1st - 42mph
2nd - 71mph
3rd - 98mph
4th - 122mph
5th - 145mph
6th - 171mph

I agree with using FB as your main website, it sucks big time.
I can live with the lower top end....anyway who needs +180 MPH on this side of the pond? Questions right now is reliability and cost of this upgrade.

Also would be nice to know what it does to auto blip, speedo/tach and other electronics/sensors in the car.

Hey you found my post! I really like these numbers. I think there are much more reasonable speeds and would significantly liven up the experience.

Why stop at the final drive ratio when you could do gears too and have the ultimate short ratio transmission? That should silence everyone's gearing concerns! I will ping the guys in Germany to see how it affects the auto blipper.

BTW (for those who have driven S2000s), here's the 4.5 Final Drive compared to an S2000 AP1 gear ratios. Surprisingly close. Think about driving an AP1 with 385hp.

With 4.5 Final Drive:
1st - 42mph
2nd - 71mph
3rd - 98mph
4th - 122mph
5th - 145mph
6th - 171mph

AP1 S2k:
1st - 44mph
2nd - 68mph
3rd - 93mph
4th - 119mph
5th - 143mph
6th - 170mph
