Yeah. That is why I called that column ask. But also why I have fretted some about it. I really don't want to be a source of information about who paid MSRP or who paid over. It is not a productive line of discussion.

I am interested in cars that show up with crazy asking prices though so I would like to somehow capture that. But if it causes anyone any anxiety I will probably just report MSRP and nothing else.

Still trying to figure out how best to handle that issue. Any commentary on it is welcome from anyone.

Sorry, I was just trying to help make the info more complete. Please handle it as you deem most appropriate. I am definitely not trying to stir any MSRP versus premium discussions in your thread.

Oh no problem it helps me to hear how people interpret what they see. I sometimes create spreadhseets that are not as intuitive as they could be. Just because I know the history of it and I know why certain things were done a certain way I sometimes forget that other people, especially those just coming into may not have that history and may see things a different way.

So I want to hear the comments and complaints, even trivial ones. Ultimately it will help me create a registry that is helpful and easy to understand for the most people. Which is really the point of that google doc.

All input is welcome!

OK, since you asked for further input, your revising your spreadsheet to have an "MSRP" column and an "Ask" column might well have made someone (like me) think you were trying to differentiate between the two. If so, fine. If not, perhaps using the "MSRP" column for confirmed actual MSRP of a car and calling any other price info as "Reported" might be less confusing.

I'm not criticizing, just trying to offer a suggestion.

The MSRP right now is only confirmed looked up MSRP. So that part is already done.

So it is just the "ask" column that is still a source of confusion. I think renaming it to reported is a good idea. I will try that for awhile. I am pretty sure that I will ultimately just delete it or hide it. But it still has a lot of information I collected early on that I am not ready to lose just yet.

I would recommend keeping as much info as possible and just trying to characterize it as best you can. Thanks again for doing the spreadsheet!

Oh boy here is weird one. Interesting that you picked this one out specifically.

I just reviewed my picture and this car is 106. Specifically WP0AC2A88GK197106. The weird thing is that it does not show up in the VIN decoder. When I enter the number it says "car not found".

Very odd.

If it's a pre-production example, maybe they're not added to the decoder tool? And on a sadder note, pre-prod examples are all ultimately destined to be crushed.

Hmm. There are earlier numbered cars that are regular production cars. Not sure if that means anything though.

Actually thinking about this. This is a Porsche display car. It was probably never sold through a dealer, and never had a Monroney. I bet it is when the Monroney (Window Sticker) is printed when it goes into the database.

This one was probably never for sale, thus no database entry. Stupid me I should have taken note of all the specs. I may just have enough pictures of the car though to figure the majority of them out.

OK I have been working the VIN looker upper thingy and I have found VIN's up to 867. This indicates about 778 produced so far.

However the VIN lookup gives us some other interesting information. Production Month. So here is what that tells us.

May - about 57 GT4's produced
June - about 192 Gt4's produced
July - about 282 GT4's produced
August - None produced
September - about 178 produced (so far)

So the first interesting thing is why no cars produced in September?

And as I understand no cars will be produced in October?

And the next item to note is that it appears Porsche can manufacture about 300 cars per month at the most.

So starting in Nov, you could in theory project 300 cars per month until the last month of production. January? I really don't know. If you knew you could make a semi educated guess at the number of cars coming.

In August, the factory was closed for a month, hence no production. In German "Betriebsferien". And i would not count on 300 cars as July was before the closure, hence might have some overtime on it.

Yes I do. But not for long. I am pushing to get as much done as possible today and tomorrow. After that I am going to have to slow down.

Plus I still haven't washed my car from Rennsport yet. It is too hot here to wash it out in the sun.
