Superb. Wouldn't it be a little quicker though if you revved it out to 8K? Seeing that you're dropping a bit too far outside of the best bits of the power band after every shift...

The GT3 cup car still pulls away out of the corners. All that rear traction; the GT4 has to wait a bit a bit to flat floor it. I love GT4's but isn't it more sensible to just buy a used cup cup if you want to run faster? A modified GT4 cannot run in GT4 classes anyway so you're up against GT3s.

Maybe initial and running cost is the reason...this car started as a 981 Cayman S with some GT4 cosmetic upgrades and the big upgrade is the engine....stock brakes and not a lot done to the suspension...it even has the A/C. Wonder how much gutted is the interior.

A Cayman will never put the power down like a 911 will and would probably need 30% more torque to win a drag race from the exit of 1 corner to the entry of the next. The lack of the multilink rear suspension hurts it; the strut rear suspension can't put both tires on the ground equally at corner exit. The 9K RPM rev limit of the Cup provides a gearing advantage in a straight line. The running cost of the Cup and the required rebuilds make it a car that can't be flogged and put away without dropping drivetrain parts and sending them to Porsche Motorsport. The Cup can't be driven to and from the track to DE events.

Finally, the single biggest reason not to buy a Cup is the same reason we read endless threads and own GT4s...we are Cayman people, not 911 people. They love their model and we love ours. You love your GT4 and you'd rather see it do better.

I haven't posted in a while but I'm sure you folks would like to see this!

Below is a comparison of the 4.25L X51 with porting vs a 718 GT4 Clubsport on the dyno.

I totally agree. I love my GT4 and have a 991.2 GT3 as well. I don't track the GT3 much (just gentleman's days) but it is quicker out of the box with zero mods (and even OEM wheel alignment) than my heavily modded GT4. The point I was making is that if you are going racing, the Cup car is the go. If you want to race GT4 catgeory the Cayman is fine and competitive. I run an old Lambo GT3 in a mixed category series (Production Sports) where basically anything goes. In that series a modded GT4 would be competing against older 997 Cup cars and I think it would struggle to beat them but it would be interesting to see. You are certainly right about costs though. Cup are not cheap to run and neither is my Lambo. I have just acquired a Radical and am going racing in that this season and I expect costs will be about 1/3 of the Lambo.

I couldn't agree more! The GT4 would be classed with the 997.2 Cups and some of those cars have HUGE motors! Please please please post some in-car video of the Lambo!

Hi John,

We saw someone post a picture of a GT4 Clubsport intake manifold you had supplied them (no doubt with the revised starter motor too. Is this a viable alternative to the Dundon Intake runners or just for your highr capacity engines?

A Lambo lap at Bathurst in the wet from 2017.

Plus, tuning the car in 2018 when we updated to Motec for engine/gearbox/traction.

She's now 10 years old but still going strong. Only going to run her in around 3 meetings a year from now on.

It's a factory designed part and it's perfectly appropriate for 3.8Ls, 4.0Ls and 4.25Ls and until someone posts an independent 3rd party review we won't truly know whose product makes more power.

Launch Control anyone? The owner of the grey 4.25L X51 with PDK is finally going to the drag strip. Stay tuned!

I couldn't catch that guy up front doing 2:13s in a bone stock car with a collared shirt on! He's my hero!
