Good to know. Always pays to tread lightly with mods; and, with caution. Of course, having the dealer do all the work would make it easy when dealing with claims!

Sounds pretty interesting setup. Would look forward to hearing how they turn out. It would take a lot to make the Spyder better, I think, for the street. Of course, anything can be improved. Comes down to how far one wants to go!

From this month's EVO comparison test of the Spyder vs. the Alfa 4C Spider:

"The Boxster Spyder is the yardstick against which all roadsters can be measured. And - as you may have guessed by now - the 4C Spider doesn't even come close."

"The Boxster Spyder's ultimate grip, involvement and the intuitive nature of the whole driving experience puts it poles apart from the 4C Spider. Also, the Porsche's sonorous flat-six doesn't just sound better than the Alfa's turbocharged four, but it's more powerful, torquier, and its linear delivery makes it so much more gratifying to use."

As reported on the GT4 board: Next gen Spyder likely to retain NA flat 6:

Great news and expected. This is consistent with what we have been hearing anecdotally. I never had a doubt; NA is a done deal for GT4/Spyder. They will be the swan song for 981 platform. The next gen platform is likely to be engineered to accommodate hybrid/electric power-train. Plugging-in a NA engine is unknown at this time. Hopefully, NA plays a part in next gen platform as well, in enthusiasts models. In fact, if Porsche can pull of meeting corporate-wide CO2 and other emission requirements, and profit, enthusiasts models can stay NA (by paying possible fines). I know, it's a long shot.

I find the skepticism of some of the members on the GT4 thread rather interesting. But, not surprised. You just have to look back to the skepticism shown to 981.1 Spyder's speculations. My only hope at this time is that the next Spyder is spaced to debut by 2019.

I really didn't have much expectations from 4C Spider. It would be extremely difficult to match, let alone surpass, the overall package of the Spyder, at any price point! There will always be models that can match or exceed one or two characteristics; but, as a package, down to every single minutia, Spyder is unbeatable! Now, roll on 981.2 Spyder!!

+1

Had a Ferrari 360 Spider 6sp and this car on paper looks a lot like it. But on the road, it feels lighter, smaller, more surgical.

Loving it!
