OT: Cayman GT4

Spot on Mooty.
DEFINITELY ADD, not replace. If I imagine the perfect garage for all things driving it would have to be the 991 GT3 and the Cayman GT4 manual (assumes spec is acceptable Im still believing 3.8L!). White GT3 and a burnt orange or some other suitable colour PTS Cayman.
Have just had two Porsche friends here drive the local dealers Cayman GTS demo. Both are fizzing over the car and cant praise it highly enough, both have experience with alot of hardware under their belt. They say the sound and handling on the road is fantastic (I think it was PDK version). One has just traded in their 997.2 TTS this week on the car and now the long wait for their order to arrive in May 2015. The other has just spent 15K USD in glass out respray of his 993 C2 and is already figuring out how to rob a bank.
If the GTS is unanimously this good the GT4 will be stella whatever config it arrives....

Porsche GT magazine that came out today has a piece on the GT4, 380HP but no mention of displacement.

380HP seems to be a higher revving 3.4L more likely?
Even if this is 3.8L I don't think I'll pick one up. At $100k it would cost me the same to get fully sorted as what I have in my non-factory 3.8L conversion.

Having just started reading this thread I have seen some discussion on European GT4 regs, which might lead (or mislead) IF it is to be a homologation base road car.
BMW offer a GT4 race series model which might give a lead to changes to get from a base road car to race car - see
http://www.bmw-motorsport.com/dam/bm...en_dra_SoJ.PDF
The gearbox regs require 6 speed non-sequential. There are dispensations however. As someone posted earlier, Ginetta (a small manufacturer) with a race car (not road car) focus ships with 6 speed sequential as standard.
There was a 997 Cup car racing in 2014 and the details are at http://www.gt3.nl/GT4-menu.pdf a 6 speed sequential again, the Camaro also has a sequential.
See http://gt4series.com
The Ginetta G55 in race trim weighs 1010 kg and has 2.97 kg/hp; the BMW 'model' uses a road car with standard power, and weight out. So if you want 3 kg/hp and have 400hp (stock 3.8L 991S) you need to get down to 1200 kg. My loaded 981CS (with motors in everything) is 1430 kg. IF it is a homologation base road car this suggests a 3.8L engine in my view.

+1, great post.
I struggle with them getting down to 1200kg on the street car, mine is at about 1250kg with full fluids (trying to adjust out driver weight). That's 100% stripped (no radio, AC, side windows, no nothing it doesn't need to run on a track), but add back in a full cage, fire suppression, 350mm front and rear brake kit.
Maybe John can share some of his experiences on weight?

My dealer was pretty sure its the 3.8L tuned slightly different or with some different internals than stock 3.8 in the 911 S. It will also be 6 speed manual only.

Based on the internet rumor so far I have read the GT3 RS is going to be used to homologate the 2016 RSR, not the regular GT3. If this is true perhaps there will also be a GT4 RS and that will be used for homologation rather than the regular GT4.
