Very telling.

Side note, I’ve ridden shotgun in the first 991.2 GT3RS 4.5 car when it was being developed and…wow. Just a ridonkculous amount of power out of that thing. If I did one of those the TC + ESC buttons would be taped over so that no one would ever turn those systems off.
I bet… sounds nuts. I was just thinking a 991.1GT3 might be a bargain in the near future once the 10 year warranties expire.

Based on the recent Harris-AP interview, they trough it out there that the 1.1 may be the next collector darling, given the drastic changes vs. previous gen, and that they've been unloved for a while.

I will clarify we would do the 4.5L conversion on the Factory replacement 3.8L engines, not the original problem ones

Agreed on both those points. I've driven a 991.1 GT3 and really enjoyed it—I honestly don't understand the animus towards those cars. Insofar as value is concerned, if I were to get into a GT3, those would be the first ones I'd be searching.

They made so many it would be hard to agree with that. Can’t remember the last three year production GT3.

but you wouldn’t touch the valve train either way?

991.2s are $200k+. A 991.1 at $130k + a 4.5l conversion sounds like a bargain.

I'm selling my Carmine 981 GT4 with the full DeMan 4.5L treatment - shortened gears, LSD, roll cage, etc. Here's your chance to skip the considerable line at DeMan if this modification is something you're interested in, and have a car ready to go this spring.

Yes, the GTS and Carrera S up to 2016 are perfect for the 4.5L conversion.
Has anyone done a 991.1 S or GTS conversion yet? Seems very intriguing! Can it be done on a 997 GTS?

Yes, we are finishing up a 991.1S at the moment. We have also done the 997 GTS and the 991.2 GT3RS

Sweet. What kind of numbers did you see with the 997? For the 997 are there any additional changes/mods needed if the car is PDK? Sounds like an awesome ride. Seriously tempted to go in this direction

Anyone have opinions about this conversion at altitude? I moved to Denver in 2020 and impact on power is noticeable here and in the mountains. I haven't been able to stop thinking about this conversion since I saw the hagerty review, but also thinking maybe the money is better spent on a 992S/GTS instead of chasing NA power. Thoughts?

Default Any 718 gt4 conversions to 4.5L

Hi,

did anybody with an 718 gt4 convert to 4.5l? I'm curious on the feedback. I have a 2021 gt4, and I'm considering doing the conversion. Do people also do the exhaust system? In what order? Which parts? thanks,

I'd really like to make the car as exciting as it can be, mostly for street use.

thanks,

Hello,

We have done 14 of the 718 cars to date, most famously is Comedian Tom Segura. He has a LOT to say about it on IG...

Feel free to call and speak with me directly about the process or suggestions

Don't want to speak for anyone, but I believe the owner of the first 991.2 GT3RS had brought his car up to the mountains (6000 ft) and reported noticeable power loss, as to be expected. If you're after big numbers at high altitude, forced induction seems to be the solution.

There's been several 718 GT4s that have undergone the swap, so there's definitely owners out there (whether they're active forum members is another matter). Can't speak to exhaust, etc., but I'd assume it's a similar story to the 981 of maximizing intake air + maximizing exhaust flow. Hopefully there are some 4.5 718 owners here that can chime in. [Edit: just saw Rick's reply above—scratch "several" and replace with "about a dozen" 🤘🏼]

I had assumed that the car must have a 3.8L or 4.0L GT3/GT4 engine to have this conversation performed. Which models/engines are candidates for the 4.5L conversion?
