Battery died last night. Called AAA, waited over an hour, and the guy spent 15 minutes "prepping" to do the jump. Tried his portable device, did not work. Hooked up his jumper cables, which used a connector from his truck's grill - did not work. Watched a video saying to connect black to the bolt/nub on the right, so tried that. Did not work. I was not convinced this guy knew what he was doing - he said he could call a tow truck and I declined. My wife came and took me to Autozone - bought jumper cables and an H5 Duralast Gold for $180. (knew that was the size thanks to finding this thread on the phone). Went to the car and jumped it off, drove it home and installed the battery. I hooked up a trickle charger during the change, but not sure it worked b/c I had to reset the clock. PCM works and windows work without doing anything extra.

Did you "initialize" your battery?
My indy mechanic initialized (coded) my new VW battery (000-915-105-DE) for $140.
My local dealership wanted nearly twice that!

Need some help here. There were numerous threads on substituting the VW 000-915-105-DE battery in place of our OEM. So now my car is at an indy mechanic and they are trying to install the VW 000-915-105-DE battery. They contacted me saying that the OEM battery is larger than the VW 000-915-105-DE replacement battery and that the battery tray is already set to the smallest position and that the new battery can't be installed as a result.

Did any of you who used the VW 000-915-105-DE battery experience any fitment issues with regards to the battery tray? Is the VW battery H5 while OEM is H6? Sorry bit of a newb when it comes to battery sizing.

Hi 35Mugen, most of the 911 variants use the H6 as one option but I believe it was the 981 being the odd one out that was using the H5..so if you're too short you could either return or exchange the H5 or I know there is a little adapter you can also get that will act as a spacer to properly secure an H5 battery to the cleat position of the H6, apologize as I don't recall exactly where we came across it but I do know that it should be available...might have even been through Autozone. Hope that helps you find a solution.

Thanks Antigravity, I spent the morning searching other threads and came across someone who encountered this issue and they mentioned that they needed to use a battery hold down to make it work. Luckily I was able to source one for like $5 at a auto parts store just up the street from my shop.

So PSA to anyone replacing their OEM battery with the VW 000915105DE. The VW unit is indeed cheaper and is compatible with the GT4 but the batteries are not like for like despite several threads seemingly indicating they are plug and play. OEM is H6 and VW 000915105DE is H5, which is smaller in dimension. In order to install the VW replacement battery you will need to use a battery hold down bracket / adaptor to secure it in the battery tray. Maybe it's just me who didn't know because I'm not exactly a shade tree mechanic but maybe others will find this information useful at some point.

Do you have a link where you bought the battery hold down or what we can order?

From the other thread the OP used the following kit from O'Reilly Auto Parts.
https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c...own/ss01/08787

I am located in Canada around the Greater Toronto Area and was able to source a similar kit from Part Source.
https://www.partsource.ca/products/b...06f01892&_ss=r

Hope that helps.

I replaced my Porsche lightweight battery with an H6 duralast platinum AGM. I originally bought an H5 but it was too small. The H6 fits perfect with the original battery hold down as there are three positions.

i re-coded the car with a 60 ah capacity and just put in all zeroes for the numbers. Works like a charm.

Got the same battery. What did you use to recode?

Thanks for posting, I ended up replacing my battery with this and got a great deal on it. It is a direct replacement without issue.

I certainly hear you on the weight, but after having my battery die several times due to leaving an overhead light on overnight, I like the higher CCA’s of the larger Continental battery I put in.

thank you for these two OEM part numbers. Here's a question for you. The first battery, the 60 amp hour. Is that and h5? An h6? Or an h8? What size is the AGM battery part number you have listed? I'm going to be doing this Battery Exchange shortly as mine is showing poor\slow starts lately. I know that the car calls for an h8 but is very tight to fit and Overkill for the car. H5 seems to be underpowered, H6 I believe is what I'm looking for. I know that my battery is the original in my 981, part number I pulled from it is 5k0915105d and when I called my local porsch dealer they wanted $379 plus tax. Creating a bag I then called the Volkswagen dealer which is literally about 400 yd from the Porsche dealership and gave them that exact part number from my battery and they said it was $199 plus tax. So I'm really just trying to figure out if I want to stick with an OE battery, or get an interstate and possibly a better warranty

do you know what size battery this is? H5? H6? H8? I also had the very same battery in my 981 GT4 or at least I think it's the very same battery because I called the Volkswagen dealer with this part number 5k0915105d. Which I pulled directly off of my battery

Let me revive the old thread...

There are two different battery tray/plate (officially called battery console) for 981 Cayman gt4. There is one plate(9P1 804 825 D) for 60AH battery and one(9P1 804 825) for 70AH and 80AH. Mine being a Canadian car made on Nov. 2015 feature the bigger plate that cannot accommodate the 60AH battery. Others may have the smaller one that can only fit 60AH battery. The battery console on the 981 GT4 is the same part features on 718 models but different than other 981 models. In conclusion, not all 981 cayman gt4 can be installed with a 60Ah H5 size battery.
